HAMILTON MEN’S HEALTH CHALLENGE
— Screenings, food and prizes will be part of Hamilton Medical Center’s Men’s Health Challenge on Saturday, Oct. 1, 9-11:30 a.m. at Bradley Wellness Center (BWC). The event is free. The screenings — worth more than $500 — will include cholesterol, glucose, thyroid, PSA, vision and balance. Also, Charles Idom, Jr, MD, will give a prostate presentation at 9 a.m. in the BWC classroom and provide prostate exams. Activities at the event will include a golf swing analysis, football throw and cornhole. All preregistered participants will receive a free gift and opportunities to win a 32-inch flat screen TV, charcoal grill, Ace gift card or other prizes. CALHOUN TENNIS ACADEMY OPEN HOUSE
— The City of Calhoun and Rome Tennis Management Group (RTM) has come to an agreement to allow RTM to operate a tennis academy at the Calhoun Tennis Center. The new program, named Calhoun Tennis Academy (CTA), will begin operations in October, 2016. CTA will host practices for juniors ages 5 & up as well as adults. The entire program will kick off with a free open house at the Calhoun Tennis Center on Sunday, October 2nd from 4-5:30 p.m.. The open house will consist of age specific clinics for juniors and adults of all ages levels. RTM will provide tennis racquets participants may demo for free for the duration of the open house.
GORDON CENTRAL ALUMNI BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
— Gordon Central will host their first-ever alumni basketball tournament on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Gordon Central High gym. The cost is $100 per team and registration will last through Oct. 1. There will be a men’s and women’s bracket and 75 percent of each team must be Gordon Central High alumni. Brackets will be posted one week prior to the tournament. Sign-in will start in the gym lobby at 8 a.m. the day of the tournament. T-Shirts will be given to all participants, and t-shirt sizes need to be turned in by Oct. 1. GORDON CENTRAL PRESEASON YOUTH BASKETBALL CLINIC
— The Gordon Central High girls and boys basketball programs will host a preseason youth basketball clinic on Oct. 29-30. The clinic is open to players in first through eighth grade and it will run from 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. on Saturday and 1:30-4:30 p.m. on Sunday. The cost for the clinic is $30. Campers will learn fundamental skills of dribbling, passing, shooting and defense. It will be a great time to get a jump start to the season. Each camper will receive a GC basketball clinic t-shirt and free admission to a Gordon Central home basketball game. Deadline for pre-registration is Oct. 13, but registration will also be taken at the door on the day of the clinic.
