One dead in Monday afternoon wreck on I-75
According to the Georgia State Patrol, a transfer trailer accident on I- 75 around mile marker 311 on Monday resulted in one death and caused damage to several vehicles.
Shortly after 3 p. m., emergency personnel responded to a call of an overturned tractor trailer between the Union Grove Road and Highway 53/Fairmount exits on I- 75 in the northbound lane. A fully loaded transfer truck, driven by James Flowers, age 48, of Decatur, Ala., was traveling southbound when it suffered a blow out from a faulty tire, causing the tractor trailer to lose control and hit a Dodge Caravan, also traveling southbound. Both vehicles crossed the median, struck the guardrail and traveled into the northbound lane, with the transfer truck landing on side.
Debris from the transfer truck scattered across the road and caused damage to several other vehicles. A passenger in the transfer truck, Cadaryl Robinson, age 29, from Decatur, Ala., was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Traffic was backed up for miles while the accident scene was cleared, with the northbound lanes of I- 75 being closed for more than three hours.
The GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team was on site Tuesday afternoon at press time reconstructing the accident. According to GSP, no charges are likely to be filed but the findings from the SCRT investigation will be turned over to the District Attorney’s office for review. The investigation is still pending at press time. its
