Acts of Random Theatre Brings “Hank Williams: Lost Highway” to the GEM
As a singer and songwriter, Hank Williams changed the face of not only country music, but music in general, forever. “Hank Williams: Lost Highway,” by Randall Myler and Mark Harelik is the moving musical biography of the legendary singersongwriter who is often mentioned alongside Louis Armstrong, Robert Johnson, Elvis and Bob Dylan. The play follows Williams from his early life in the backwoods of Alabama to the Grand Ole Opry to his untimely death at age 29. During his short career, Williams released 35 songs; 11 of those hit number 1. The show features more than 20 songs including “Hey Good Lookin’,” “I’m so Lonesome I Could Cry,” and “Move It On Over.” Rolling Stone called the show, “Exhilarating! A rare achievement in musical theatre!”
Sugar Valley native Jeremy Guider does a striking portrayal of Hank. Jeremy is a singersongwriter and has appeared previously on the GEM stage opening for Jason Isbell’s 2012 appearance. Other cast members include theatre veterans Susan Powell, Amanda Powell, Cameron Abney, Rodney Curtis and Brian Anderson. Completing the cast are musicians Ken Alexander (Fiddle), Harry Maddox (Guitar), Larry Tuggles (Pedal Steel) and Joel Keene ( Bass).
Performances are Thursday, Oct. 27 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 29 at 8 p.m. A matinee will be held on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased by calling the GEM Theatre at 706-625-3132 or by visiting their website at calhoungemtheatre.org.
