Lester scores first college TD in West Georgia victory

Several former local football standouts have gone on to the next level to play college football and many are making an impact for their teams this season.

More than 30 players that graduated from either Calhoun, Gordon Central or Sonoravill­e can be found on college football rosters throughout the nation, and several of those saw action in their team’s most recent game.

Here’s a roundup of the former local players who appeared in the box score and how they did last week:

THOMAS LESTER, West Georgia, Calhoun

The sophomore Lester had two catches for 60 yards, including a 34-yard touchdown reception in the Wolves’ 31-23 home victory over Mississipp­i College in Carrollton on Saturday. It was the receiver’s first collegiate touchdown reception.

ADAM GRIFFITH, Alabama, Calhoun

Griffith made 2-of-3 field goal attempts, making from 32 and 28 yards, and was also 3-for-3 on extra points in the Crimson Tide’s 33-14 home win over Texas A&M on Saturday in Tuscaloosa. The redshirt-senior kicker also handled kickoff duties and averaged 64 yards per kick on seven attempts with two touchbacks.

TAYLOR LAMB, Appalachia­n State, Calhoun

Lamb threw for 220 yards on 18-of-23 passing for the Mountainee­rs in their 37-19 home victory over Idaho on Saturday. The redshirt-junior quarterbac­k also had a twoyard touchdown run and had one punt for 19 yards.

TRISTAN FULLER, Sewanee, Calhoun

Fuller, a sophomore linebacker, had five solo and one assisted tackle for a total of six in the Tigers’ 49-10 loss at Centre on Saturday.

DREW McENTYRE, The Citadel, Calhoun

McEntyre, a freshman, started at right guard in the Bulldogs’ 24-21 win at Wofford on Saturday. The victory puts The Citadel at 7-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

CHANDLER CURTIS, Mercer, Calhoun

Curtis started at receiver and had three catches for two yards and a touchdown in the Bears’ 41-34 win at Austin Peay on Saturday. The junior also had three kickoff returns for 83 yards total, including a 45-yard return, and one punt return for six yards.

JIREH WILSON, Wofford, Calhoun

Wilson, a freshman linebacker, had two solo tackles in the Terriers’ 24-21 home loss on Saturday against The Citadel.

BLAINE ANDERSON, Shorter, Calhoun

Anderson, a freshman defensive lineman, had two assisted tackles in the Shorter’s 36-0 loss at West Florida on Saturday.

MATT EDGAR, Lindsey Wilson, Sonoravill­e

Edgar, a senior kicker and holder, held successful­ly on 5-of-5 extra point attempts in the Blue Raiders’ 55-34 loss at Reinhardt on Saturday. It was Lindsey Wilson’s first loss of the season.

MARCUS (MJ) REYNOLDS, Lane College, Gordon Central

Reynolds started at quarterbac­k and threw for 30 yards on 6-of-14 passing in the Dragons’ 26-14 loss at home to Miles on Saturday. The sophomore also ran for 31 yards.

SEBASTIAN WILLER, Georgia State, Calhoun

The redshirt-junior offensive lineman saw reserve action in the Panthers’ 31-6 home win over TennesseeM­artin on Saturday.

DJ PRATHER, Chattanoog­a, Gordon Central

Prather, a redshirt-junior defensive lineman, participat­ed but didn’t record any stats in the Mocs’ 30-14 win at home over Virginia Military Institute on Saturday.

DREW McCRACKEN, Kennesaw State, Calhoun

The sophomore long snapper McCracken participat­ed but didn’t record any stats in Kennesaw State’s 47-39 victory at Gardner-Webb on Saturday.
