CGCREA holds second annual Scholarship Auction

- Staff Reports

During the 2015- 2016 term of the Calhoun Gordon County Retired Educators Association, the first annual Scholarship Auction was held and was a huge success. The money raised was added to the donation from late educator Ken Proctor’s estate to start a scholarship endowment fund.

The Gordon County Scholarship Foundation was established in the summer of 2016. Each year, three $ 500 scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors who are pursuing a degree in education. The goal of the CGCREA is to continue raising funds to help grow the endowment and someday increase t he i ndividual scholarships.

This year, the second annual Scholarship Auction will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at Calhoun High School. Items for the silent auction will be displayed for bidding from 4 to 5: 30 p. m. in the Calhoun High School Media Center. Refreshments will be served at 5: 30 p. m. The Live Auction will take place at 6 p. m. The community is invited.

Please put the date and times of the auctions on your calendar and come by to bid on one or more items. This is a great way to help our future teachers and receive a wanted/needed item in the process.

If you are an individual or a business who believes in education as strongly as the local retired educators group does, donate an item for auction or come by to bid on donated items on Nov. 15. Contact, Ruth Kleeman, Scholarship Auction Chair, if you have questions at 706629- 9664.
