Frix handles long-snapping in UGA win over Kentucky
Several former local football standouts have gone on to the next level to play college football and many are making an impact for their teams this season.
More than 30 players that graduated from either Calhoun, Gordon Central or Sonoraville can be found on college football rosters throughout the nation, and several of those saw action in their team’s most recent game.
Here’s a roundup of the former local players who appeared in the box score and how they did last week:
TRENT FRIX, Georgia, Calhoun
Frix, a junior, handled long- snapping duties for the Bulldogs in their 27-24 comeback win at Kentucky on Saturday, including snapping on the game-winning 25-yard field goal by Rodrigo Blankenship as time expired.
ADAM GRIFFITH, Alabama, Calhoun
Griffith made his only extra point and kicked a 25-yard field goal with just under three minutes left in the fourth quarter to clinch Alabama’s 10-0 win at LSU on Saturday. The senior kicker also handled kickoff duties, averaging 63 yards on three attempts with two touchbacks.
TAYLOR LAMB, Appalachian State, Calhoun
Lamb had a solid offensive day, throwing for 120 yards and four touchdowns on 12-of-19 passing in the Mountaineers’ 35-10 win at home over Texas State on Saturday. The redshirt-junior also ran for 37 yards.
KENNY COOPER, Georgia Tech, Sonoraville
Cooper, a freshman, saw playing time at center on Saturday in the Jackets’ 48-20 loss at North Carolina.
CHANDLER CURTIS, Mercer, Calhoun
Curtis had two catches for 28 yards and a touchdown in the Bears’ 21-13 home win over East Tennessee State on Saturday. The junior receiver and returner also had a rushing attempt and returned three kickoffs for a total of 57 yards.
GABE FREEMAN, West Georgia, Calhoun
Freeman, a senior linebacker, had three assistd tackles and an interception in West Georgia’s 45-21 home loss on Saturday against Florida Tech.
MATT EDGAR, Lindsey Wilson, Sonoraville
Edgar, a senior kicker and holder, successfully held on seven successful extra points and one field goal in the Blue Raiders’ 52-38 home win over Bethel on Senior Day. Lindsey Wilson finishes the regular season at 10-1 and will have a bye week before learning their opponent in the NAIA Football Championship Series Playoffs.
KOLBY REYNOLDS, Mississippi College, Calhoun
Reynolds had two solo and one assisted tackle for a total of three in the Choctaws’ 32-0 win at Shorter on Saturday. Among the freshman defensive back’s stops was a sack for an eight-yard loss.
JIREH WILSON, Wofford, Calhoun
Wilson had one solo and one assisted tackle for a total of two in the Terriers’ 34-27 victory at Furman on Saturday. The freshman linebacker also forced a fumble in the win.
MARCUS (MJ) REYNOLDS, Lane College, Gordon Central
Reynolds, a sophomore quarterback, threw for 58 yards on 5-of-13 passing with a touchdown and rushed for 27 yards and a touchdown in the Dragons’ 24-21 home loss against Morehouse College.
SEBASTIAN WILLER, Georgia State, Calhoun
Willer, a redshirt-junior, started at right tackle in Georgia State’s 31-16 loss at home last Thursday.
CARTER EDWARDS, Berry, Calhoun
Edwards, a senior defensive back, had one pass breakup in the Vikings’ 38-12 win at home over BirminghamSouthern on Saturday.
THOMAS LESTER, West Georgia, Calhoun
Lester, a sophomore receiver, had two catches for six yards in the Wolves’ 45-21 loss at home on Saturday to Florida Tech.
TRISTAN FULLER, Sewanee, Calhoun
Fuller, a sophomore linebacker, had two kickoff returns for 47 total yards in the Tigers’ 33-30 home loss to Millsaps on Saturday.
BLAINE ANDERSON, Shorter, Calhoun
Anderson, a freshman defensive lineman, participated but didn’t record any stats in the Hawks’ 32-0 loss at home to Mississippi College on Saturday.
DREW McCRACKEN, Kennesaw State, Calhoun
McCracken, a sophomore long snapper, participated but didn’t record any stats in the Owls’ 56-0 win at home over Clark Atlanta on Saturday.
