— The Calhoun Aquatic Center is open to the entire community offering group and private swim lessons, lap swimming, liquid fitness classes, pool parties, a fitness room, and is home to Northwest Georgia Aquatics, a sanctioned USA Swimming & US Masters Swimming competitive, year-round swim team. GORDON COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT YOUTH BASKETBALL REGISTRATION
— The Gordon County Parks and Recreation Department is currently holding registration for the 2015-16 youth basketball season. Registration will be Oct. 3-29 at the Sonoraville Rec Complex at 7494 Fairmount Hwy. SE or online at www.gordoncounty.org. Age divisions are as follows: 5-6 co-ed and 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-17 girls and boys. Age control date for all participants is Jan. 1, 2017. The registration fee is $45 per player. CALHOUN RECREATION DEPARTMENT YOUTH BASKETBALL REGISTRATION
— The Calhoun Recreation Department will hold registration for youth basketball from Oct. 3-Nov. 4 and late registration Nov. 5-10. Registration fee is $45 and late registration is $55. Youth basketball is open to girls ages 7-12 and boys ages 7-14 with age cut-off date on Dec. 31, 2016. Registration is available in person at the Calhoun Rec Dept. at 601 South River Street Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m.-9 p.m. and Wednesday and Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. or registration is available online at www.calhounrec.com. CALHOUN MOOSE LODGE TURKEY SHOOT
— The Calhoun Moose Lodge will host a Turkey Shoot, starting Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. and going each Sunday after that. It will be held at 329 Prater Lake Road, Calhoun, Ga. 30701. Call 706-629-4618 to sign up or for more information.
CALHOUN MOOSE LODGE TURKEY SHOOT
— Now through November 14 the Calhoun Score Club is taking orders for our Annual Christmas Tree fundraiser that supports CHS soccer teams. The trees are fresh Frasier Firs directly from the mountains of North Carolina. These are gorgeous trees and last a long time. If you’re interested in buying one, contact Calhoun High boys head soccer coach Matt Rice. Orders and payments have to be turned in by Monday, Nov. 14. Trees will be delivered at the Calhoun High School football field on Saturday, Nov 26 between 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Please can contact Matt Rice through Facebook or email him at ricem@calhounschools.org for a price list or to place an order.
SMOKED BOSTON BUTTS
— The Gordon County Young Farmers are offering Smoked Boston Butts. The cost is $30 for a 7-9 pound whole Boston Butt and $35 for a 7-9 pound pulled Boston Butt. They will be available for pickup on Wednesday, Nov. 23 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Payne Produce at 204 Salem Road, Calhoun. All proceeds will go to support the Gordon County Young Farmers. TURKEY TRAIL TROT
— The Huffin’ & Puffin’ for Turkey & Stuffin’ 2016 Turkey Trail Trot will be held on Thanksgiving morning Nov. 24 at Raisin Woods Bike Park at 145 Raisin Way. There will be a 5-mile run and 1-mile run/walk. Entry is free with canned goods. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the race starts at 8:30 a.m. Registration is available online at www.mydprd.com or at check-in. For any questions or more info, call 706-278-5404.
CALHOUN TENNIS ACADEMY JUNIOR PROGRAM
— The Calhoun Tennis Academy will have a Fall Junior Program October through November at the Calhoun Tennis Center at 601 South River Street. The class schedule is Tuesdays and/or Thursdays 3:45-4:30 p.m. for players ages 5-8, 4:30-5:30 p.m. for players ages 8-11 and 5:30-7 p.m. for players 11 and over. Pros will use their best judgment to place players in the correct group based on their age and skill level.
