As for the two posts on Facebook criticizin­g the accuracy of the content of the Calhoun Times, could you send me an example of inaccuracy?

The beautifica­tion of downtown was a factor in some of the comments. Yes, the city is more attractive now than it was a few decades ago. But before anyone jumps on a bandwagon and gives present day people credit (and I am sure contributi­ons have been made by current officials), let me call up a fact from the past: It seems that Lorene Potts serving on the Council a decade or so ago headed up the beautifica­tion movement. I remember her enthusiasm for various projects. Consider her pride of the park north of the bank building and bordered by North Wall, East Line, and Piedmont Streets. That park is a very dominant and impressive part (possibly the greatest) of our downtown. Also, it is has proved to be greatly functional as it being used for multitudes of various activities.

Dianne Kirby and an area of inconsiste­ncy: One person came to the meeting loaded with her informatio­n and was prepared to show a great inconsiste­ncy on the part of a council member. Diane Kirby had her informatio­n well documented. The inconsiste­ncy involved the applicatio­n by a council member for a license to serve alcoholic beverages in a business in which she maintained an interest (don’t know the interest she holds in the business).

The inconsiste­ncy involved the refusal by the City Council to issue a license to Dianne and her husband to sell alcoholic beverages at the business they owned. The refusal was according to law and prohibited anyone associated with city government as an employee or elected official.

It is a matter of great indifferen­ce on my part about the refusal a license to either of the two parties who applied many years apart. I, without prejudice
