Performance schedule updated for Let’s Make A Kid Smile toy drive

- Staff Reports

For more years than people can remember, United Way of Gordon County, the Voluntary Action Center (VAC), Gordon Emergency Medical Services ( EMS), Wal- Mart of Calhoun and students from the Calhoun City Schools and Gordon County Schools choral departments have partnered together to sing at Wal- Mart.

Initially the school choruses sang for food at a number of different stores, but as the need for toys at Christmas grew, the focus of the program changed to toys. Choruses from all of the elementary schools will be singing this year. This Christmas tradition continues and works well for Gordon County. Families and friends join the fun of listening to children sing Christmas music. As a second generation of performers share their songs, many of their parents are reminded of the times they too sang for toys.

Again this year, Stephen Hare from Rock Bridge Church will be handling the sound system for all the performances. The EMS volunteers will be outside Wal- Mart collecting toys or contributions for the VAC’s Christmas toy program. They will be at Wal- Mart on Thursday, Dec. 1, as well as Friday and Saturday Dec. 2 - 3, and Dec. 9 - 10. Below is the schedule for the day.

Again this year, Courtney Taylor, EMS director, is beginning the 100100- 100 Campaign. Taylor began this fundraising campaign several years ago to assist the VAC with funds for children who might not be adopted for Christmas. He asked, “100 businesses and/ or individuals to donate $ 100 to provide Christmas for 100 Kids! This is a simple idea that has met the goal each year and helped hundreds of less fortunate children in our community.”

To be added to the list of 100 donors, contact Courtney Taylor at 706- 602- 7800 Ext. 2387 or email courtney. taylor@ ahss. org. The deadline is Dec. 16.

Please come and join in a true Christmas tradition in Calhoun with these very talented chorus groups.
