Family seeks answers into Calhoun man’s disappearance one year later
The family of Sean Patrick McDuffy, the 28- year- old Calhoun man who has been missing for almost one year, are still looking for answers into his disappearance and want to bring him home.
According to the Calhoun Police Department, McDuffy was reported missing on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2016 after failing to contact family during Christmas. Brandy King, McDuffy’s girlfriend at the time, reported that McDuffy had left Calhoun on Sunday, Dec. 20, en route to an unknown address in Asheville, N. C. to drop off a friend, Eric Brown.
“I wasn’t worried the first couple of days when he left,” said Kathy McDuffy, Sean’s mother, shortly after he disappeared. “When Christmas day arrived and I had not heard from him, and he had not attempted to contact his children, that was when I realized something was wrong and he needed to be reported as missing.”
No new evidence has been provided since early this year and the case appears to be turning cold. McDuffy’s family offered a $ 500 reward at the time of his disappearance to anyone that could provide information to the location and his whereabouts, but no new leads turned up.
McDuffy’s car was in a local shop for repairs at the time of his trip to North Carolina, so he rented a car for the trip from Enterprise Rentals in Dalton.
“The story Sean told me was he was taking Eric Brown to North Carolina so Eric could see his children for Christmas,” said Kathy. “I do not know Eric Brown; I have never heard of him or ever heard Sean mention him previously.”
Brown was i nterviewed by detectives in North Carolina but no information on that interview has been released due to the case still being classified as active.
King told detectives with the CPD that she last talked to McDuffy on Monday, Dec. 21, 2015 at approximately 6: 30 p. m. She told authorities t hat McDuffy told her he was lost. King said that McDuffy became agitated with her during their conversation and began making suicide threats by motor vehicle accident.
The rental vehicle, a 2015 gray Dodge Ram 1500 with a Texas License Plate FJR 3205, was recovered in Clay County, N. C., approximately 105 miles from Calhoun, on Dec. 29, 2015. The truck appeared abandoned and no sign of McDuffy was found at the scene.
Kathy feels her son’s disappearance could be drug related. “He was a good kid, but he did get into some trouble and had recently relapsed,”
