Gordon Hospital holds clothing drive for patients in need

- Staff Reports Staff Reports

(Calhoun, Ga.) -- In medical emergency situations, patients’ clothing may become soiled or need to be cut off, leaving the patient without proper clothing when they are discharged. Unfortunately, not all patients have friends or family they can call on to bring them clothing. This is why Gordon Hospital has made a promise that no patient will be discharged without the appropriate clothing they need.

Gordon Hospital employees organized a clothing drive. Clothing for all seasons was donated. In total, two boxes of sweatshirts, one box of sweatpants, two boxes of t-shirts, two boxes of coats and jackets, one box of men’s shirts, one box of pants, and one box of shorts were donated to the clothing drive.

Retha McRay and Rhonda Martin, both employees of Gordon Hospital, led the clothing drive project.

“I am blessed to work with such kind people at Gordon Hospital,” said Martin. “They truly made the clothing drive a success, and we are so thankful for them. The donations will be used to ensure that those less fortunate have a warm change of clothes and jacket to leave in.”

Residents of the Gordon County area sometimes overlook a major airport located much nearer than Hartsfield- Jackson in Atlanta. Blake Poole, vice president for Air Services and Economic Development at Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport, recently visited the Calhoun Rotary Club.

Poole, who is also a Board Member of the Gordon County College and Career Academy, has been involved with aviation for some time. He was general manager for Public Affairs at Delta Airlines for almost 20 years.

He told the club that Chattanooga Metro is a hub for four airlines: Delta, American, United and Southwest. The airport, located in Chattanooga, Tenn. also accommodates military flights and general aviation.

Visitors at the recent meeting were Dr. James Gentry and Sabrina Poole, daughter of the guest speaker.
