realized as those who advanced the “change” or “restructur­e” position were very subjective in their position. Their idea is to move from a system tested and tried, which has proved to be greatly beneficial to our city. The system presently in place can be placed in the objective category. The new proposals are of the “We feel,” or “We think,” nature. That is what I mean by subjective.

As most readers already knew, the City Council had approved a bill to consolidat­e the structure of the city government. Mayor Jimmy Palmer, who favored leaving the structure as it has been, had stated he would veto the bill and he did. The meeting on Monday concerned the express purpose of overriding the veto. The council with three votes in favor of change did in fact override the veto. I am going to emphasize here that the objective nature of any reasoning reigns over the subjective in any area of life. One ( objective) is one in which valid conclusion­s can be drawn and proven; the other (subjective) is a system of feelings and guess work.

No. 3: The majority of the people seem to be against the change and to keep the structure as it now is. Of every person who has expressed a view to this writer since the issue came up, only one has been in favor of a change. At the meeting, several comments were heard from elected officials expressing that they had been elected to serve the people of Calhoun. Yes, that is true. And the truthfulne­ss of that statement puts the will of the people at the forefront of the issue. With that
