Cheeks adds another double-double to aid in Reinhardt win

-- Five players scored in double-figures for (RV) Reinhardt as the Lady Eagles closed out home events in 2016 for the department with an, 85-62, victory over Life Tuesday night at the Brown Athletic Center.

The Lady Eagles (111) only led by one at the half, 38-37, but RU outscored Life 47-25 over the final two quarters of the contest to pull away for the victory. Current Appalachia­n Athletic Conference Player of the Week and former Sonoravill­e standout Rebecca Cheeks had her second double-double in a row thanks to a 16 point, 12 rebound effort. JessAnn Nix scored 15 thanks to 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point territory. Jaleya Mosley scored all 12 of her points from the foul line, while Erika Woodfin added 11 points off the bench. Bria White was RU’s fifth double-digit scorer, netting 10 in the contest.

Reinhardt played the team game to near perfection as the Lady Eagles had 20 assists on 23 made baskets. Mosley’s five assists were a team-best, with Payton Smith adding four. White and Smith each had six rebounds to help RU out-rebound the guests, 43-30.

With RU ahead in the third quarter, 44-41, Nix connected on a 3-point- er to make it a six-point game with 6:05 left in the frame. The Lady Eagles would never lead by less than six again, as the lead grew to a dozen by the end of the third quarter, 60-48. An 8-2 spurt to start the fourth quarter thanks to 3-pointers from Jada Hubbard and Danielle Pray helped RU push the lead to 18 as RU pulled away to win by 23.

As an athletic department, Reinhardt ended the calendar year with a home record of 108-40-1.

The Lady Eagles will be idle until Dec. 28 when they travel to take on Ave Maria in Miami, Fla., as part of the NAIA Southeaste­rn Challenge. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
