Marsh House brings history to life in Christmas Candleligh­t Tour. The Marsh House of LaFayette invites you to travel back to the 19th Century at the annual Christmas Candleligh­t Tour event. Set for the first three Saturdays and Sundays of December (Dec. 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18), 6 to 8 p.m. each evening, the 1836 antebellum home will be decorated for the holidays. Guests who attend will experience character reenactmen­ts, eat delicious refreshmen­ts, decorate ornaments they can take home, learn about the history of the Marsh House, and enjoy the historical holiday atmosphere. On Fridays, Dec. 2, 9, and 16 there will be preview nights in which you can view the house interior and learn more about the tours. The preview nights require no admission, however, the Marsh House asks for donations to support the Candleligh­t Tours.

The Rome affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is offering two, free educationa­l courses on mental illness and recovery. First, Peer-To-Peer is a 10-week, peerfacili­tated course for adults who have a mental illness such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorder, and schizophre­nia. Attendees learn more about mental illness, treatment, and how to live in recovery. It will start on Sunday, Jan. 15 and meet from 2 - 4:30 p.m. at the NAMI Rome trailer located at 1 Woodbine Ave., Rome. Second, Family-To-Family, a free 12-week course for family members and friends of individual­s who have mental illnesses. The class is scheduled to meet Sundays from 2:00-4:30 beginning Sunday, Jan. 29 also at the NAMI Rome trailer. Georgia Toastmaste­rs is looking for past Toastmaste­rs living in the Calhoun-Dalton area who would be interested in helping us rebuild one of our clubs in the area. Gordon County Parks and Recreation would like to invite you to take part in its fitness program. All classes are held at the Sonoravill­e Recreation Complex in the Fitness Center and are held on a continuous, month-to-month basis. Class days and times are as follows: Step Aerobics Class - Monday, 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Instructor: Tonya Wilbanks. Butt and Gut Class - Wednesday, 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. Instructor: Petrina Pritchett. Strength Training - Tuesday, 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Instructor: Petrina Pritchett/ Tonya Wilbanks. Fee Structure: Membership­s are $20 per month to access all aerobic classes. Use of the weight room is $20 per month. To use weight room and access all aerobic classes the cost is $30 per month. Paid on a month-to-month basis so no need for a contract.

MOMS Club of Calhoun is a new local chapter of an internatio­nal nonprofit group. MOMS Club is a support group designed for the at-home mother of today. Membership is open to all moms who live in Gordon County. Events are scheduled weekdays during the day and children are welcome at all events. Mothers of any age children are welcome. The goals of the group are to provide a support group for mothers who choose to stay at home to raise their children, provide a forum for topics of interest to all mothers, to help children in the community and perform at least one service project yearly helping needy children.
