The Military Order of the Purple Heart Rome Chapter 525, meets the first Monday of the month except holidays at the Rome Nation Guard Armory located at 340 Wilshire Road at 6:00 P M. All veterans who have been awarded the Purple Heart are eligible for membership and are invited to join. The Calhoun Housing Authority Board of Commission­ers meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month for the regular called Board Meetings at 12: 00 p. m. The following documents will be needed for appointmen­ts: drivers license or state issued photo ID; original social security cards for everyone living in household; proof of citizenshi­p or immigratio­n status such as driver’s license, US military ID, US passport, state issued photo I, US permanent resident card, alien registrati­on card, employment authorizat­ion document, certificat­e of citizenshi­p; most current heating bill within the past 30 days; if your home is heated with natural gas, kerosene, propane or wood you MUST bring both your heating bill and electric bill to the appointmen­t; proof of income for the last 30 days for everyone 18 years or older living in the home including alimony, child support, disability, pension, rental income, retirement, social security, unemployme­nt, wages from work, wages from self employment and workers compensati­on. The Rome affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is offering two, free educationa­l courses on mental illness and recovery. First, PeerTo-Peer is a 10-week, peer-facilitate­d course for adults who have a mental illness such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorder, and schizophre­nia. Attendees learn more about mental illness, treatment, and how to live in recovery. It will start on Sunday, Jan. 15 and meet from 2 - 4:30 p.m. at the NAMI Rome trailer located at 1 Woodbine Ave., Rome. Second, Family-To-Family, a free 12-week course for family members and friends of individual­s who have mental illnesses. The class is scheduled to meet Sundays from 2:004:30 beginning Sunday, Jan. 29 also at the NAMI Rome trailer. For more informatio­n on either course and registrati­on, call Jim Moore at 706-2324607.
