Gordon County DFCS thanks community for Secret Santa support
Gordon County Division of Family and Children Services would like to thank all of the businesses, volunteer groups, families and individuals who stepped forward this Christmas season to make the holidays brighter for foster children across the county. The holidays are a difficult time for many children in care, as they are not able to spend it with their families. Our agency is very proud to be a part of a community that took it upon themselves to come forward and sponsor all 120 foster children in the county this year.
Each year, Gordon County community members show their generosity in sponsoring the foster children in our county, but this year, on top of over $4100 being donated to the Secret Santa fund, all 120 children’s Christmas lists were chosen by Secret Santa shoppers. This community effort resulted in every single foster child in Gordon County being sponsored and waking up on Christmas morning with gifts under the tree. The division would also like to thank CrossFit’s Oscar Mike for donating their space as the location for all gifts to be dropped off and their staff for helping to organize the event.
In addition to many of these children not being able to spend Christmas with their families, many children are also separated from the communities they grew up in. Due to a lack of foster homes in our community, many children are moved out of their school districts, away from their friends, and placed in unfamiliar places where they have no connections. Our agency is always recruiting for new families to come forward to help these children by being foster and adoptive parents.
