Multiple charges filed in Wednesday high speed chase
According to the Georgia State Patrol, a high-speed chase on I-75 early Wednesday morning resulted in multiple charges for a man from Knoxville, Tenn.
A deputy with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office attempted to make a traffic stop on a suspicious 2006 Dodge Charger sometime after 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11 around Exit 312 on I-75 Northbound. The car stopped and as the deputy approached, the car sped off. A high-speed chase ensued.
The Dodge got off the interstate at Exit 318 and immediately continued back onto the interstate. They again exited the interstate at Exit 320 where the driver attempted to make a right turn but instead hit the median and then hit a tractor trailer.
The driver and owner of the Dodge, Christopher Hounschell, 28, from Knoxville, Tenn., along with his passenger, Whitney Buckles, 24, of Knoxville, Tenn., were both transported to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton. Hounschell was released to authorities with minor injuries later that morning; Buckles suffered unknown but serious injury.
The driver of the tractor trailer was believed to be unharmed. The Dodge suffered extensive damage.
Georgia State Patrol handled the accident investigation. Hounschell will face charges of driving too fast for conditions, driving without a valid license, no proof of insurance, reckless driving, serious injury by vehicle, failure to yield at stop sign, use of safety belts in vehicle, failure to maintain lane, failure to use traffic signal, fleeing/attempting to elude, littering highway, possession of firearm by convicted felon, speeding.
