Runners can also register on the morning of the race in person beginning at 8 a.m. Sponsored by Heritage Auto Group, the ML5K drew participants from all over Floyd County and from Centre, AL last year.
GFCA COACHES CLINIC
— The Georgia Fastpitch Coaches Association will host their annual GFCA Coaches Clinic on Jan. 14 at Riverwood High School from 8 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Guest speakers include Jack Llewelyn, PH. D., John Tschida, Austin Wasserman and Doug Gillis. The theme of the clinic this year is Practice Planning, with outdoor hands on examples performed by John Tschida and coaches from the Universities in Georgia. There will also be a recruiting seminar with coaches from every level of college softball in the evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Membership fee for the GFCA is $35. Member clinic admission is $75. GFCA NORTH GEORGIA SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

ELKS HOOP SHOOT
— The Calhoun Elks Lodge #1883 will host their annual Elks Hoop Shoot at the Calhoun Recreation Department on Jan. 22. The Hoop Shoot is free to all participants. There will be three separate age divisions and it will be broken up into girls and boys divisions in each. The 8-9 year-old division begins at 2 p.m., 10-11 year-old division at 3 p.m. and 12-13 year-old division at 4 p.m. Age determined as of April 1, 2017. Each contestant will shoot 25 free throws and the contestant with the most points wins. Contestants will receive a free T-shirt for participating as long as supplies last. Winners advance to the district competition with the opportunity to move on to the State, Regional and National competitions. All expenses will be paid by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
