Local library receives donation for Fleece Tie Blanket Project

- Staff Reports Staff Reports

North Georgia EMC and the trustees for Operation Round Up (ORU) awarded $2000 to the Friends of CalhounGordon County Library for what is called the Fleece Tie Blanket Project.

The blanket project involves buying fleece material and training volunteers to make fleece tie blankets. As these blankets are made, they will be given to the foster children of Gordon County.

After learning how to make these blankets during special classes, volunteers can call and set up a time when it is convenient for them to stop by the library and work on the blankets. Since this is an on-going project, students from local schools are especially encouraged to be involved in this activity. They can obtain community service hours for school by coming to the library and working on a blanket.

“We want to make enough blankets for every foster child to have one of their own,” said Nyala Edwards, branch manager of the Calhoun-Gordon County Library. “Our library wishes to extend a special thank you to NGEMC for the grant which enables us to purchase the fleece for this project.”
