Calhoun’s Rierson, Johns leads 6-AAA All-Region Team

The 6-AAA AllRegion Team was announced on Saturday with several local players earning recognitio­n after impressive regular seasons for their respective teams.

Calhoun’s Chapin Rierson and Jana Johns rose to the top of the talented group of girls and boys players in the region. Rierson, a senior forward, took home 6-AAA Boys Player of the Year honors, and Johns, a senior forward, won 6-AAA Girls Player of the Year.

Rierson is averaging more than 14 points, seven rebounds and two blocks a game for the Jackets who are currently 18-4 and just completed a 13-0 record in Region 6-AAA play. They will open the Region 6-AAA Tournament on Friday after receiving a double-bye into the semifinals.

Johns is the leading scorer for the Calhoun girls and also became the all-time leading scorer in the modern era for the Lady Jackets this season while helping them to a 20-4 record and an 11-2 mark in the region. They will also open play in the semifinals of the region tournament on Friday after receiving a double-bye.

Joining Johns on the All-Region Girls Team is Calhoun teammate Ashlyn Barnes ( Sr., Guard) along with LFO’s Jazzmyn Elston and Macey Gregg, Ringgold’s Rachel Thomas and Karoline Sholl, Haralson County’s Alexis Boykin and Tori Causey, Adairsvill­e’s Nakiyah Washington and Josie Summervill­e, Coahulla Creek’s Lily Snyder, North Murray’s Sarah Plemons and Bremen’s Morgan Cashen.

Rierson’s teammate Malik Lawrence (Sr., Guard) was also named to the All-Region Boys Team along with three Sonoravill­e standouts, Wil Walraven (Jr., Guard), Brad Wilson (Sr., Guard) and Bryce Waters (Sr., Forward).

Rounding out the boys selections were Coahulla Creek’s Tyler Phillips and Maddox Adams, North Murray’s JT Langford, Ringgold’s Cade Nayadley, LFO’s Zach Thompson, Bremen’s Jason Houston, Murray County’s Adrian Winters and Adairsvill­e’s Hunter Hice.
