CALHOUN RECREATION DEPARTMENT SOFTBALL AND BASEBALL REGISTRATION
— Registration for the 2017 youth softball and baseball season will be held Jan. 30-Feb. 24 at the Calhoun Recreation Department. Baseball is open to boys ages 5-14 with age cutoff date as May 1, 2017, and softball is open to girls ages 5-14 with age cutoff dade as Jan. 1, 2017. Registration fee is $50 for all ages. Registration is available at the Sonoraville Recreation Complex or online at www.gordoncounty.org. Divisions are: 5-6 Co-ed coach pitch, 7-8 coach pitch, 9-10 and 11-12 live pitch. — Registration for the 2017 youth softball and T-ball season will be held Feb. 4-28 at the Gordon County Parks and Recreation Department. Age groups are as follows: Softball 7-8 coach pitch, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14 live arm. The registration fee is $50 and jerseys are included with the player’s fee. T-ball is for 3-4 year olds. The T-ball player has to be 3 years old as of Jan. 1, 2017. Registration fee is $35. All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate when registering. MACHINE GUN CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING GORDON COUNTY SCHOOL NIGHT
— Machine Gun Championship Wrestling presents Gordon County School Night on Feb. 17 at the National Guard Armory (300 N. River St., Calhoun, Ga.) with belltime at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for kids. To reserve tickets, call 706-301-6351. Which Gordon County School can bring the most fans to the show, you have been challenged. Wrestlers scheduled to appear are Draven Lee, Mike Clay, The Nu Wave Party Rockers, Tragedy Ann, Super Aja Perrera, The Inner City Bad Boys, Chris Ganser and a MGCW heavyweight championship match between Brent Banner and Lights Camera Action. Card is subject to change.
WARRIOR DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT
— The second ever Warrior Dodgeball Tournament will be held at Gordon Central High on Feb. 25. There will be a 3rd-5th grade, middle school, high school and adult divisions. Registration will take place 9:30-9:50 a.m. for the 3rd-5th and middle school division in the practice gym and start time will be 10 a.m. Registration for the high school and adult division will be 10-10:20 a.m. in the main gym with start time at 10:30 a.m. Pre-registration is recommended. All proceeds to benefit extra curricular activities at Tolbert, Swaim, Belwood, Ashworth and Gordon Central. The tournament is sponsored by Warrior Pride Association. Teams will consist of a minimum of six and maximum of eight players. The tournament will be double-elimination and games will consist of the best two out of three. Cost is $10 per player. Registration and waiver forms can be found of the Gordon Central High website. All fees are cash only and non-refundable. Teams need to have matching or similar shirts for the tournament. T-shirts and concessions will be available for purchase the day of the tournament. HARBIN CLINIC LEPRECHAUN-A-THON
— Lights, foam, bubbles and more are part of the course for the sixth edition of the Harbin Clinic Leprechaun-a-thon, and runners and walkers can register now for the event which takes plan on Friday night, March 17. This year’s race features a flat, fast course and a few special areas where runners can run through bubbles and foam. The finish line has been transformed into a miniature St. Patrick’s Day Festival with a large foam area where runners and walkers can celebrate finishing the event. The race begins at 7:30 p.m. with the walk beginning five minutes later at 7:35 p.m. Registration for the event is currently open, and anyone interested in participating in the 5K run or two mile health walk can sign up by going to the Rome Floyd Parks and Recreation website at rfpra.com/leprechaun-a-thon. Pre-registration costs $25 for the 5K and $20 for the walk. Kids ages 12 and younger and groups of 10 or more athletes can register for $20 each by visiting the Rome Floyd Parks and Recreation office at 1 Shorter Avenue. The 5K race is chip timed with awards going to the top three male and female finishers in each age group, as well as awards going to the overall male and female winner, male and female masters winners and grandmasters winners. The awards ceremony will be held on the Town Green after the race. Pre-registration ends on March 16. Race-day registration costs $30 for either the 5K or the walk. Race packet pickup will be held on March 16 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Harbin Clinic Vitality Fitness at 504 Redmond Road. To guarantee a race t-shirt, register online by March 8. The race begins on East First Avenue behind the SunTrust bank building and ends on the Town Green. Runners and walkers are encouraged to get into the St. Patrick’s Day festivities by donning their best green attire and accessorizing with jewelry that glows or flashes light. Judges will be on hand for the pre-race costume contest where they will award prizes to the Glowiest Leprechaun, the Littlest Leprechaun, for those ages 12 and under, and the Most Festive Leprechaun. All runners and walkers will receive a Leprechaun-a-thon armband in their race packets that will include discounts and specials from participating downtown businesses and restaurants.
GORDON CENTRAL BLUE WAVE MARCHING BAND MILLION DOLLAR HOLE-IN-ONE SHOOTOUT
— The Gordon Central Blue Wave Marching Band will host their third annual Million Dollar Hole-In-One Shootout in April. Qualifying dates are April 26 from 12-7 p.m. and April 27-28 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. The Shootout will be April 29 starting at noon. Host location is the Calhoun Elks Lodge at 143 Craigtown Rd, NE Calhoun, Ga 30701. How it works: attend a qualifying date, purchase shots, be a top-10 qualifier and you will have a chance for a shot to win $1 million. Qualifying prices are $2 for one ball, $5 for three balls, $8 for five balls and $10 for seven balls. Each person with the closes to the pin for the the two qualifying flags at the end of qualifying will win $200 each. Marshmallow longest drive is also available with one marshmallow for $2 and three marshmallows for $5.
