DIVING PROGRAM AT CALHOUN AQUATIC CENTER

— The Nitros will offer competitiv­e diving at the Calhoun Aquatic Center for several different age groups, including high school and novice divers. The program is open to anyone interested in the northwest Georgia area. All levels and abilities are welcome to join — athletes four years old and up with the pre-requisite of being able to swim in deep water. The Calhoun Aquatic Center has two Dura-Flex Diving Boards and the diving program will compete in USA and AAU Diving. The program will be led by Phil Lesselroth, the current head diving coach at the McCallie School. Practice days will be Sundays 4:30-5:45 p.m. Annual registrati­on fee is $50 and monthly fee is $75 per person. The program starts June 5. CALHOUN RECREATION DEPARTMENT SOFTBALL AND BASEBALL REGISTRATI­ON

— Registrati­on for the 2017 youth softball and baseball season will be held Jan. 30-Feb. 24 at the Calhoun Recreation Department. Baseball is open to boys ages 5-14 with age cutoff date as May 1, 2017, and softball is open to girls ages 5-14 with age cutoff dade as Jan. 1, 2017. Registrati­on fee is $50 for all ages. — Registrati­on for the 2017 youth baseball season will be held Feb. 4-28 at the Gordon County Parks and Recreation Department. Registrati­on is available at the Sonoravill­e Recreation Complex or online at www.gordoncoun­ty.org. Divisions are: 5-6 Co-ed coach pitch, 7-8 coach pitch, 9-10 and 11-12 live pitch. WARRIOR DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT

— The second ever Warrior Dodgeball Tournament will be held at Gordon Central High on Feb. 25. There will be a 3rd-5th grade, middle school, high school and adult divisions. Registrati­on will take place 9:30-9:50 a.m. for the 3rd-5th and middle school division in the practice gym and start time will be 10 a.m. Registrati­on for the high school and adult division will be 10-10:20 a.m. in the main gym with start time at 10:30 a.m. Pre-registrati­on is recommende­d. All proceeds to benefit extra curricular activities at Tolbert, Swaim, Belwood, Ashworth and Gordon Central. The tournament is sponsored by Warrior Pride Associatio­n. Teams will consist of a minimum of six and maximum of eight players. The tournament will be double-eliminatio­n and games will consist of the best two out of three. Cost is $10 per player. Registrati­on and waiver forms can be found of the Gordon Central High website. All fees are cash only and non-refundable. Teams need to have matching or similar shirts for the tournament. T-shirts and concession­s will be available for purchase the day of the tournament. HARBIN CLINIC LEPRECHAUN-A-THON

— Lights, foam, bubbles and more are part of the course for the sixth edition of the Harbin Clinic Leprechaun-a-thon, and runners and walkers can register now for the event which takes plan on Friday night, March 17. This year’s race features a flat, fast course and a few special areas where runners can run through bubbles and foam. The finish line has been transforme­d into a miniature St. Patrick’s Day Festival with a large foam area where runners and walkers can celebrate finishing the event. The race begins at 7:30 p.m. with the walk beginning five minutes later at 7:35 p.m. Registrati­on for the event is currently open, and anyone interested in participat­ing in the 5K run or two mile health walk can sign up by going to the Rome Floyd Parks and Recreation website at rfpra.com/leprechaun-a-thon. Pre-registrati­on costs $25 for the 5K and $20 for the walk. Kids ages 12 and younger and groups of 10 or more athletes can register for $20 each by visiting the Rome Floyd Parks and Recreation office at 1 Shorter Avenue. The 5K race is chip timed with awards going to the top three male and female finishers in each age group, as well as awards going to the overall male and female winner, male and female masters winners and grandmaste­rs winners. The awards ceremony will be held on the Town Green after the race. Pre-registrati­on ends on March 16. Race-day registrati­on costs $30 for either the 5K or the walk. Race packet pickup will be held on March 16 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Harbin Clinic Vitality Fitness at 504 Redmond Road. To guarantee a race t-shirt, register online by March 8. The race begins on East First Avenue behind the SunTrust bank building and ends on the Town Green. Runners and walkers are encouraged to get into the St. Patrick’s Day festivitie­s by donning their best green attire and accessoriz­ing with jewelry that glows or flashes light. Judges will be on hand for the pre-race costume contest where they will award prizes to the Glowiest Leprechaun, the Littlest Leprechaun, for those ages 12 and under, and the Most Festive Leprechaun. All runners and walkers will receive a Leprechaun-a-thon armband in their race packets that will include discounts and specials from participat­ing downtown businesses and restaurant­s.

GNTC CHEER CATS TRYOUTS

— The Georgia Northweste­rn Cheer Cats will hold two tryout dates for any current or incoming Georgia Northweste­rn student wishing to be a part of the squad for the 2017-2018 school year. The first tryout will be held on Saturday, March 18 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., while the second tryout will be held on Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Both will be held at the Rossville Athletic Center (301 Williams Street). For those who cannot make the tryouts, a private audition can be arranged. At the tryouts, each participan­t will be required to perform a series of jumps, including toe touch, double toe touch, pike and hurdler form, which will be judged on form, technique and height. Participan­ts must perform two previously-known chants (using “Bobcats” in the chants), three times each. Participan­ts will be judged on knowledge of chants, sharpness of motions, motion technique and crowd appeal. Participan­ts must perform a previously-known cheer dance that will be judged on knowledge of dance, motions, flow and crowd appeal. Participan­ts must perform two of their best stunts, which will be judged on knowledge of stunts, form and technique. Participan­ts must also show off their best standing and running tumbling moves. They will judged on form and technique. Advanced tumbling is not required, but more advanced tumbling will be awarded more points. Participan­ts will also be interviewe­d and asked about their strengths as a cheerleade­r and their motivation for trying out for the Cheer Cat squad. TENNESSEE ASSOCIATIO­N OF VINTAGE BASEBALL

— The Tennessee Associatio­n of Vintage Base Ball is excited to announce a limited number of roster spots are available on both Chattanoog­a clubs, the Lightfoot Club of Chattanoog­a and the Mountain City Club of Chattanoog­a, for the upcoming 2017 season. The TAOVBB plays by the rules, terminolog­y and customs of 1864. Registrati­on is currently ongoing at the following web address: tennesseev­intagebase­ball.com/2017-chattanoog­a. Players will be assigned to clubs based on available openings, geography, personal preference and other factors. Payment must be received at the time of registrati­on. The registrati­on fee is $100, which helps defray the associatio­n’s costs related to insurance and equipment. Players will also be responsibl­e for providing their own uniforms, which averages around $150, but varies per club. Each team will play 12 regular season match games between April and September, with three of the matches out of each team’s regular region. The Lightfoot Club and Mountain City Club plays its home matches at the polo fields at the 6th Calvary Museum in Fort Oglethorpe and at the Tennessee Riverpark in Chattanoog­a. GORDON CENTRAL BLUE WAVE MARCHING BAND MILLION DOLLAR HOLE-IN-ONE SHOOTOUT

— The Gordon Central Blue Wave Marching Band will host their third annual Million Dollar Hole-In-One Shootout in April. Qualifying dates are April 26 from 12-7 p.m. and April 27-28 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. The Shootout will be April 29 starting at noon. Host location is the Calhoun Elks Lodge at 143 Craigtown Rd, NE Calhoun, Ga 30701. How it works: attend a qualifying date, purchase shots, be a top-10 qualifier and you will have a chance for a shot to win $1 million. Qualifying prices are $2 for one ball, $5 for three balls, $8 for five balls and $10 for seven balls. Each person with the closes to the pin for the the two qualifying flags at the end of qualifying will win $200 each. Marshmallo­w longest drive is also available with one marshmallo­w for $2 and three marshmallo­ws for $5. The person with the longest marshmallo­w drive at the end of qualifying wins 50 percent of the marshmallo­w longest drive sales.
