Gordon County Senior Center celebrating 20 years
This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the C. L. Moss/ Gordon County Senior Center and the Nutrition Site.
The Gordon County Senior Site Council, located at the Gordon County Senior Center, 150 Cambridge Court, Calhoun, will be sponsoring an open house on March 22, 2017, from 9 a. m. until 2 p. m. Light refreshments will be provided. Thegoal for the open house is to acquaint the citizens of Calhoun and Gordon County with the Senior Center and the Nutritional program.
There will be a 20th year celebration in November, the official opening month for the center. The Senior Center has activities such as trips, games, crafts, and bingo.
The Nutrition Site provides daily lunches, Monday – Friday at 11: 30 a. m., served here at the Center. The nutritional program also oversees the Meals on Wheels for Calhoun and Gordon County. They offer educational programs on diabetes, Georgia Cares and Georgia Legal services.
The Nutrition Site Council, under the Nutritional program, has several additional programs. This year, the Council will begin a visitation program, where there will be visits in the homes of the homebound clients, to increase their social contact. The Center will be able to provide fellowship and complete small tasks for homebound seniors.
The Council provides a monthly nutrition bingo where food and useful household items are the prizes. This helps supplement the budget for the seniors on fixed incomes. A $ 10 gift card from a local business is the blackout prize.
At Thanksgiving and Christmas, the Site Council provides a catered meal from a local restaurant.
The Nutrition Site Council works hard to raise money to support these programs. The council holds yard sales, including the Hwy 41 Old Dixie Hwy yard sale the first weekend in June. They sell barbecue plates and raffle off donated items, such as paintings, quilts and rugs.
The Officers and members of the Nutrition Site Council hope that you will make time in your busy schedule to visit on March 22, 2017 between 9 a. m. and 2 p. m., to learn all about the fun, food, fellowship and the programs offered.
