Calhoun girls 4, Gordon Central 0

The Calhoun Lady Yellow Jackets showed finesse and a penchant for goal scoring by prevailing 4-0 against the Gordon Central Lady Warriors.

After dominating possession in the first half, the Lady Jackets (1-1) snatched all the momentum in the 25th minute when Carter Baggett won a scramble for the ball near the left goalpost after a corner kick and snuck the ball past the Gordon Central keeper to create a 1-0 advantage at halftime.

The second half provided more of the ball-control offense by Calhoun. Baggett made her presence felt again by completing the brace with a long-distance strike that found the net and pushed the score to 2-0 in the 50th minute.

Calhoun also enjoyed a breakout performance from freshman Jenna Santori, who tacked on an additional two goals in the second half. Santori found the back of the net in the 62nd minute before tapping in a header for her own brace a few minutes later.

Michelly Huitanda was the primary facilitator the Lady Jackets on offense, providing two assists.

Calhoun is back home to host LaFayette on Tuesday, and Gordon Central (0-3) is at Chattooga. (For details on those games, see Saturday’s Calhoun Times.) The Lady Jackets host LFO on March 9 at 5 p.m.; Gordon Central hosts Rockmart on Friday at 6 p.m.
