Calhoun Police Department opens new precinct at Calhoun Premium Outlets

- By Brandi Owczarz

The Calhoun Police Department this week announced the opening of a new police precinct at Calhoun Premium Outlets, located 455 Belwood Road in Calhoun. The precinct is located on the south end of the outlet mall, situated between Sunglass Hut and VF Outlet.

“The police department recently opened this precinct at the Premium Outlet Mall in cooperation with the mall management,” said Calhoun Police Chief Garry Moss. “The office space provided, at no cost to tax payers, will provide a work place for officers on the southeast side of Calhoun.”

Moss explained that officers can stop in at the new precinct office to finish various incident reports before traveling back to the station in downtown Calhoun, in addition to monitoring the outlet center.

“We believe the new precinct will help better serve the area, enabling our officers to closely interact with the public and carry out our community policing efforts,” said Moss.

Calhoun Premium Outlets General Manager Linda Hale helps the addition will also help deter the number of shoplifting and counterfeit money issues that are seen at the facility. “I feel the presence of the precinct, along with the increase in officers coming into the outlets, will decrease the incidents of shoplifting and counterfeit money we see,” said Hale. “We are thankful for the partnership we have with the Calhoun Police Department and for their willingness to put a precinct here.”

This will be the third precinct located in Calhoun for the police department. “Having this precinct on the opposite side of town from our River and Line Street precinct, and the main headquarters on North Wall Street should reduce response times for calls for service, and provide greater visibility throughout the city to help reduce crime in this area,” said Moss.

Calhoun Mayor Jimmy Palmer was pleased with the addition of the precinct, and the partnership between the city and Calhoun Premium Outlets. “Anytime we can partner with a local business to reduce crime is a positive for the community,” said Mayor Palmer.

“We want to thank Calhoun Premium Outlets for providing this facility for the Calhoun Police Department,” said Moss. “We look forward to working with them in reducing crime.” From left, Calhoun Police Chief Garry Moss, Calhoun Premium Outlets Manager Linda Hale and Calhoun
