A three-car accident on Highway 225 on Saturday evening resulted in several nonlife threatening injuries.

Georgia State Patrol responded to the accident, which occurred March 4 around 6:15 p.m. A 2013 Chevrolet Equinox, with a Michigan license plate, was traveling north on Newtown Church Road and were stopped at the intersection with Highway 225. Across the highway, a 2008 Chevrolet Z-71 with an Ohio license plate was traveling south on Craigtown Road and had stopped at the intersection. The driver of the Equinox pulled forward to cross Highway 225 into the path of a 1996 Honda Accord, with a Georgia license plate. The Accord hit the Equinox, both spinning clockwise. The Accord ended up underneath the Equinox, and the Equinox hit the Z-71.

The two adults in the accord, along with a baby just under a year of age, were transported by ambulance to Gordon Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Equinox had a hand injury but was not transported for treatment.

The driver of the Equinox was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign.

The GSP told the Calhoun Times that construction detours from I-75 are clogging the local roads with increased traffic and they are urging motorists to use caution while traveling on local highways while I-75 repair and rehabilitation projects continue. According to Mohamed Arafa with the Georgia Department of Transportation, a bridge rehabilitation project on I- 75 throughout Gordon County is being performed now and is expected to be complete by the end of September. A guardrail replacement project on I-75 throughout Gordon County is expected to be completed by the end of May.
