The Tripp Day Community Hoedown Fundraiser has been set for Saturday, March 18, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at BB&T Park in downtown Calhoun. The fundraiser for Tripp Halstead and the Team Boom foundation was organized by local residents who wanted to replace t-shirt order money after a local business failed to complete a large t-shirt order placed by the charity.

The event will host many activities for children and families, including bounce houses, a Corn Hole tournament, Chili Cook Off, a Calhoun Bake Off, various retail and craft vendors, a silent auction and food for sale throughout the day. A DJ will also be on hand throughout the event to provide entertainment.

At press time, the Halstead family, including Tripp, plan to make an appearance at the event. Tripp Halstead is the Athens area boy who was severely injured after an October 2012 accident at his daycare where a large limb fell out of a tree, striking him on his head.

Entry fees for the Chili Cook Off and Calhoun Bake Off are $25 each. First, second and third place winners will be chosen for each category.

Entry fees for teams of two in the Corn Hole tournament are $25 per team.

Vendor spots are still available for $25 per spot. Donations for the silent auction are still being taken, and volunteers for the event are still needed.

Vendors participating at press time include different vendors for clothing lines, handmade crafts, baked goods, jams and jellies, Boys Scouts and Girl Scouts.

Organizer Stephanie Starr, of Great Clips in Calhoun, wants to thank all of those businesses and people who have donated and sponsored already: Fastenal, McQueen Roofing, Cheeseburger Bobbies, Wholesale Food Outlet, Stacy’s Signs and Designs, GrandStanz, Calhoun Great Clips, DJ Patrick Williams of Preferred Sound & Productions in Dallas, Ga., Thatcher’s and Patrick Mayes with A-Mayes-ing Inflatables of Rome. Starr also wants to thank the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office for providing deputies for the event.

“I couldn’t not do something,” said Starr. “The Halstead family needs to know that Calhoun supports them and what happened to them is not reflective of the people or businesses in our community. Let’s come together as a community and help raise the money that was taken from this foundation.”
