Two local schools take title in their respective region’s Literary competition.
Gordon Central wins Region 7-AA Literary
Gordon Central High School hosted the Region 7-AA Literary meet on Friday, March 3, at Belmont Baptist Church here in Calhoun. Gordon Central came in first, winning the meet with 71 points to Model High School’s 38 points for second. They took 9 first places finishes out of 12 events. The first place finishers will now head to the state competition.
“I’m very proud of the work our Warriors did on Friday and look forward to competing with them at the state meet on March 18 at Houston County High School in Warner Robins,” said Dr. Kim Watters, director of choral/theatre activities at GCHS. “We have an excellent team of coaches at Gordon Central. Renee and Alan Hughes coach the extemporaneous speakers. Brian Hall coaches the writers. Richard Bristow coaches the drama students. Vicky Latimer coaches our girls soloist and helps with the boys soloist. I’m honored to work with such a dedicated group of coaches and students. We have been the AAA state Literary team champions for the past two years. Calhoun High wins Region 6-AAA Literary
Calhoun High School placed first overall in the 6AAA Region Literary meet last Thursday, March 2. The event was hosted by Calhoun High School and was split into a two day event because of weather concerns.
Literary is a Georgia High School Association event focusing on music, drama, writing and public speaking. Calhoun placed in all twelve events, taking first place in women’s solo, men’s solo, duo oral interpretation, personal essay and foreign extemporaneous speaking.
“I am so proud of all of these students,” said India Galyean, Literary Coach for CHS. “They worked hard and represented CHS well. They are a very talented group of students and we look forward to the state competition.”
All students placing first will travel to Warner Robbins for the state meet on March 18.
