Phoenix have good day in tri-match vs. Cartersvil­le, Woodland

Sonoravill­e visited Cartersvil­le Country Club on Monday for a tri-match against Cartersvil­le and Woodland and came away with solid results.

The Sonoravill­e boys finished second among the three teams with a score of 179. Cartersvil­le was first with 172, and Woodland shot a 208.

The Phoenix were led by Blake Rouzee who shot a 41. Lane Strickland and Ryan Redd both carded 42s, and Destin Summers finished the scoring with a 54.

The Sonoravill­e girls were led by Clara Hulsey who took low medalist honors with a 43.

Sonoravill­e hosted North Murray on Thursday at Fields Ferry. (For details on that match, see Wednesday’s Calhoun Times.) They will visit North Murray at Indian Trace next Thursday.

GOLF Gordon Central defeats Adairsvill­e

Gordon Central traveled to take on Adairsvill­e on Monday at Barnsley Gardens and came away with a win.

The Warriors shot a 189 to finish ahead of Adairsvill­e with a 198. Gordon Central was led by Jordan Hardin with a 41, and Isaac McIntyre shot a 45.

Gordon Central will visit Meadow Lakes on Monday to take on Pepperell.

Warriors, Lady Warriors win at Stonebridg­e

Both the Gordon Central girls and boys teams traveled to Stonebridg­e in Rome and came away with wins by finishing ahead of their compeititi­on.

The Gordon Central boys shot a 200 as a team to defeat Pepperell by one stroke. Coosa came in third with 225. Leading the Warriors was Stanton Walker with a 48. Joshua Hardin carded a 49, Zeb Reddix shot a 51, and Isaac McEntyre had a 52 to finish out the team score.

The Lady Warriors defeated Pepperell by five strokes in a match that was called due to darkness after eight holes. Cierra Lawson shot a 47, and Abigail Hayes had a 49 to lead the team.

BASEBALL Armuchee 12, Gordon Central 6

The lead switched hands multiple times on Monday, but it was Armuchee’s seven-run fourth that proved to be the difference in a Gordon Central region road loss.

The Warriors (0-7, 0-1) took a 3-0 lead to start the game in the first inning and then retook the lead with a threerun fourth to make it 6-5, but Armuchee busted out for a seven-run bottom half of the inning to take control and never give it back.

Gordon Central was led at the plate by Cam Williams and Dawson Cline. Williams had two hits and two RBIs, and Cline had a double and two RBIs. Logan Hefner and Layson Hefner each had a hit and a run scored, and Josh Temple scored two runs and walked twice.

The Warriors are back at home on Friday to host Rockmart in a Region 7-AA contest at 5:30 p.m.

SOCCER Gordon Central boys 2, Model 1

The Warriors got a late goal to break a tie and earn a solid region road win on Wednesday.

Model led 1-0 at the half, but Gordon Central (3-2-1, 3-1) got a goal from Johnny Rivas to tie things up, and then Wilson Falla scored the game-winner on a header from a corner kick with five minutes to play.

The Warriors are back home on Monday for another region contest against Coosa at 7 p.m.

Gordon Central boys 3, Armuchee 1

Gordon Central played attacking offense and solid defense to earn a region win at home on Monday.

The Warriors ( 2- 21, 2- 1) scored early on a goal from Johnny Rivas, but Armuchee battled back to tie things up. Gordon Central’s defense shut them down from there, however, and Rivas and Valentin Avalos scored goals to close out the win.
