You are invited to a MOTHER- DAUGHTER DINNER ON MARCH 14. ( Any Female Caregiver/ Relative Welcome). Free Dinner on Tuesday, March14, from 5: 30 - 7: 30 p. m. at the Depot in downtown Calhoun. This is a special event to both celebrate and educate mothers or other female caregivers and daughters about taking care of their health. A local female physician will provide information about preventing cervical cancers and breast health. The presentation was developed by the American Cancer Society. Puberty topics and reproductive anatomy will be covered and there will be time for Q & A. The Anne Jones Memorial Preschool of First Baptist Church will open Fall Registration on Monday, March 13 for the 2017- 2018 school year that will begin in September. There are limited openings in the 2- year- old through 4- year- old Pre- K classes. Registration will be held at the preschool. GORDON COUNTY SENIOR CENTER AND NUTRION SITE. The Nutrition Site Council, located at the Gordon County Senior Center, 152 Cambridge Court, Calhoun, GA. will be hosting an “OPEN HOUSE” on March 22, 2017 from 9 a. m. - 2 p. m. Light refreshments will be provided. If you are 50- years- old and over come and visit the Center and learn all about the FUNFOOD- FELLOWSHIP, and the programs we offer.
Habitat for Humanity of Gordon County recently announced that they will hold another town hall meeting on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 6 p. m. to find eligible families for upcoming Habitat homes. The meeting will be held at the Calhoun Depot in downtown Calhoun. Anyone interested in owning a Habitat home is encouraged to attend the meeting to learn more about the requirements and fill- out preliminary applications.
The Alzheimer’s Association will host a Caregiver Workshop from 10 a. m. to 2 p. m. on Thursday, March 23 at the Bartow Senior Center. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to learn from Geriatric Nurse Practitioner Susan Greene. Susan will present The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia, and Alzheimer’s Disease. Other presentations will include Effective Communication and Understanding and Responding to Dementia Related Behavior. The Caregiver Workshop is sponsored in part by the Area Agency on Aging. The public is invited to a ribbon cutting and opening ceremony for the new baseball/ softball facilities at the Calhoun Recreation Department at 9 a. m. on Saturday, March 25. Park is located at 10 McDaniel Station Road. There will be a parade of teams, inflatables, the Rome Braves’ Romey and Roxie and the Calhoun City Council/ Recreation Board throwing out the opening pitch.

The diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease makes planning for the future more important than ever. Concerns about care provision and programs that can help offset costs mean that families need accurate information about legal and financial planning specific to the disease. The Alzheimer’s Association will host a Legal and Financial Planning education program on Wednesday, March 29 from 11 a. m. to 2 p. m. at Jasper United Methodist Church in Jasper. Elder law attorney Sharon McCoy and financial planner Jeff Riblet will be guest speakers at the event.
