At Hamilton Neurosurgery and Spine Center, Hare treats patients like family
Josh Hare, DO, pain management physician, says his philosophy is and always has been trying to do what’s best for the patient in front of him.
“We take each case and patient individually and treat the patients as if they were part of our family,” he says. “We always start with the most conservative approach possible and escalate as necessary.”
Hare sees patients at Hamilton Neurosurgery and Spine Center, both the Dalton and Calhoun locations. He says he wants to decrease his patients’ pain and increase their mobility and function through a complete spectrum of pain- relieving treatments.
“I have always enjoyed working with my hands and procedural medicine has always intrigued me,” he says. “I actually really enjoyed my primary specialty of anesthesiology, but once I was exposed to pain medicine, which allowed the combination of procedural-based medicine as well as the development of long- term relationships with our patients, I knew this was the path for me.”
Hare is board certified in both anesthesia and interventional pain medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He completed a pain medicine fellowship at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He also completed a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Kentucky, serving as chief resident in the final year of his program. He received a degree in osteopathic medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Georgia campus.
Hare is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.
According to Hare, it is a challenging time to be in the field of pain management. “The opioid epidemic has been devastating to our country and individual communities,” he says. “As we move forward, as has already taken place, I feel as though there will be a continued move toward pain management options that de- emphasize opioid- based pain medications.”
Hare says he is excited about several new developments in the pain management field. “New innovations in the field of spinal cord stimulation, has led to vastly improved outcomes and offers patients with back and leg pain, a serious alternative to further surgical intervention,” Hare says. “We also have had great successes with new pain relieving procedures for chronic knee pain, called Coolief ( Cooled Radiofrequency Thermocoagulation).”
Hare and his family have lived in the Dalton area since 2014. He and his wife Ryan have two children, Cash and Taylor, and a godson, Courtlyn. “We love spending time together, traveling, exercising and following college and professional sports,” he says.
Raised in Cleveland, Tenn., Hare played basketball at Bradley Central High School. He continued playing basketball while attending Samford University in Homewood, Ala.
“I have always loved to compete,” he says. “That was in my DNA from the very beginning. I still love to play basketball and usually play three to five days a week at Bradley Wellness Center ( Dalton) with a great group of guys know as the ‘ MBA,’ or Morning Basketball Association.
