Sonoraville alum Cheeks named NAIA All-American at Reinhardt

-- Reinhardt’s Rebecca Cheeks, a former Sonoraville High standout, has been named an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American following an outstanding 2016-17 season.
The freshman from Ranger, Ga., was named Appalachian Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year after averaging 16.1 points per game and 10.2 rebounds per contest. A four-time AAC Player of the Week, Cheeks also earned NAIA Player of the Week recognition Jan. 10 and was also a First Team All-AAC honoree.
Cheeks finished 2016- 17 ranked seventh in the country in rebounds with 335. Her four offensive rebounds per game were ninth- best in the country. Her exact rebound average of 10.152 per game placed her 13th in the country in rebounds per game.
In all, the freshman ranked in the top 50 nationally in six different categories. In the AAC, Cheeks ranked siaxth in scoring and first in rebounding.
In all, 60 women’s basketball student-athletes received All-American status; of those 60, Cheeks was the only freshman to receive the recognition.
