Wilburn Scott

Mr. Wilburn Charles Scott, 96, of the Scottsvill­e Community, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home on March 21, 2017.

He was born in Plainville on May 8, 1920, son of the late Myrton Miles Scott and Tennie Boswell Scott. One word that would sum up his life would be Faithful. Mr. Scott was a devout Christian and member of Fellowship Baptist Church of Plainville. He was at church every time the doors were open never missing Sunday School in 58 years up until his declining health in 2014, but continuing to attend regularly until the past few months. In his younger years, he served as a Deacon, Junior Boys’ Sunday School teacher and a Coach for Royal Ambassador­s baseball teams. He was a World War II veteran serving his country in the South Pacific with the U. S. Navy from 1944- 1946. Upon his return, he owned and operated the Scott’s Service Station in the Scottsvill­e Community up until the 1980’s. He was a custodian and lunch room monitor for 15 years at W. L. Swain Elementary until he retired at the age of 90. It was a job that he took great pride in, where he could show the love of Jesus, through him, by just opening a milk carton for a student or planting beautiful flowers for the staff to enjoy. Students and staff loved him back by simply referring to him as “Papaw.” In 2013, he was recognized as a fifty year member of the Masonic Lodge of Georgia, Plainville Chapter. He was a devoted, loving husband to his late wife, Clara Mae, visiting her in the nursing home 3 times daily to feed her and just spend time with the love of his life. Many would ask why he goes to see her when she doesn’t know who he is. He would simply say “But I know who she is.” He was a devoted and loving father to his children, Kathy Brown and the late Barbara Worley. He always loved to read his Bible daily, tend to his farm, looked forward to his weekly date nights or visits with his family, as well a love for the Atlanta Braves.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Mae Bowman Scott; a daughter, Barbara Worley; a great grandchild, Thomas Smith; brothers; Infant Myrton Miles Scott, Clarence Scott and Wofford Scott ( Bernice); sisters; Rosa Lee Landrum(M.C.) and Rebecca Scoggins( Buddy); brother in law; Bill Hamilton.

Survivors include his daughter, Kathy Brown and her husband, Larry W Brown; son-in-law, Donald Worley; a sister, Corine Hamilton; sisterin- law, Joyce Scott; grandchild­ren; Joan and D. C. Kinman, Jean and Steve Williams, Jan and William Smith, Judy and David Craig, John Worley, Walter and Fonda Brown, Monica and Tony McGuire, Joseph and Laura Brown, and Amanda and Paul White; 16 great grandchild­ren and one great- great grandchild; devoted niece, Sandra Swinford; and other nieces and nephews.

Special recognitio­n and appreciati­on is given to Cynthia Leatherwoo­d with Gordon Health Care and Jerrie McDougle and the Floyd Heyman Hospice Care Team.

A Celebratio­n of Life was held on Thursday, March 23 at 7 p. m. at Fellowship Baptist Church of Plainville with Rev. Danny Pelfrey and Rev. Ron Bankson officiatin­g. Fonda Brown and Sherri Wilson will be in charge of music.

Visitation was held on Thursday, March 23 from 4 – 7 p. m. at Fellowship Baptist Church prior to the service. A private graveside service was held at Fain Cemetery. Pallbearer­s were Grandsons and Grandsons- in- Law. Honorary Pallbearer­s were “his boys” which include men that were in his Junior Boys’ Sunday School Class and Members of the Royal Ambassador­s (RAs) Baseball Teams.

James Tinch

Mr. James Grady Tinch, 84 of Calhoun, died Tuesday, March 21, 2017. He was born in Murray County on June 2, 1932, son of the late Monroe Tinch and Mae Hall Tinch. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his foster parents, Marvin and Ora H. Clark; four brothers, J. M., Paul B., Raymond and Bob Tinch; three half brothers, George, Willard and Claude Hall and three sisters; Nell Hall Tinch and Martha Tinch.

Mr. Tinch was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served from 1952- 1954 and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and attended Agape Baptist Church. Grady was a truck driver and retired from Vulcan Materials after 42 years of dedicated service.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ruby Gallman Tinch; sons, Larry Tinch and his wife Rose and Tim Tinch and his wife Julie; a brother, Bill Tinch and his wife Jean; a sister, Grapell Headrick; grandchild­ren, Brian Tinch and his wife Julie, Dylan Tinch, Coy Tinch, Cheyenne Tinch, and Heath Melville; and greatgrand­children, Tanner, Bayleigh, Tyler, and Gunner Tinch.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 24 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. James Cobb officiatin­g. Interment will follow at Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearer­s serving are Brian Tinch, Tanner Tinch, Tyler Tinch, Dylan Tinch, Donald Gallman, Dallas Tinch, Coy Tinch, and Mike Tinch.

The Tinch family received friends at the funeral home on Thursday, March 23 from 4 until 9 p. m.

Kathleen McDaniel

Kathleen Agnes McDaniel, 63, of Fairmount, died Saturday, March 18, 2017. She was born in Brooklyn, N. Y. on Oct. 20, 1953, daughter of the late Richard and Helan Carr Medican. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Medican; and a grandchild, Adeline Nicole Weeks.

Survivors include her daughters and sonin- law, Marie Kay Weeks of Rome, Lee and Noe Vicente of Rome, and Nicole Cline of Cartersvil­le; her sisters, Mary Ellen Anastos, Peggie Gallagher, Anne Michelson, and Noreen Beblel, all of New Jersey; her dearest friends, Herb and Cindy Woodall, Lanora and Lanny Graham, and Setta Stephens; and her Godchildre­n, Rosalie Romero and Krissie Stephens.

A memorial service for Kathleen Agnes McDaniel will be held on Tuesday, March 28 at 10 a.m. at the Rock Garden, 1411 Rome Road, Calhoun, GA, behind the Calhoun Seventh Day Adventist Church. The family asks that the only thing to bring is good memories and a light heart, because that’s how she would have wanted it.
