Gordon County Schools announces new personnel
Gordon County Schools is proud to announce three personnel decisions recently approved by the Board of Education. With the implementation of the district’s 1:1 initiative, Gordon County Schools has added two instructional technology positions to support the utilization of technology in the classroom. Chuck Langston has been named as the instructional technology specialist for secondary education, while Celena Chastain will assist elementary schools in this initiative. Additionally, Brian Hall was named Assistant Principal at Sonoraville Elementary School, a position he will take over for the 2017-18 school year.
Langston enters his new position after ten years of classroom experience, where he taught at both the middle and high school levels. During his classroom tenure, he served on multiple technology committees, participated in Microsoft and Apple training, became a certified Apple teacher and trained other teachers in the use of classroom technology.
“I’m extremely excited to be the new Instructional Technology Coordinator,” said Langston. “I look forward to the challenge, and I am excited to share my expertise with all of Gordon County Schools. This 1:1 initiative will open so many possibilities for our system, and I hope to be an effective leader in showing everyone the most effective ways to use these amazing educational tools.”
Chastain will enter her new role following a career at the elementary level.
“I am very excited to begin this new journey,” said Chastain. “I am a product of Gordon County Schools and have spent my entire career educating the children of Gordon County. Instructional technology is a passion of mine, and I am beyond excited that our school system is pursuing the 1:1 technology initiative. This role will allow me to support our excellent teachers as we integrate technology into instruction.”
As a classroom teacher, Chastain served as the master tech teacher, assisting teachers with technology issues, and was the school’s webmaster. In 2003, she transitioned into the role of media specialist where, among other technology-related responsibilities, she designed and conducted teacher technology trainings and digital literacy workshops for adults and students.
Hall is a Gordon County native and has spent his career in the Gordon County district. In 2015-16, Hall was named Gordon County Schools’ District Teacher of the Year. Brian is very excited to join the Phoenix family and become a member of the Sonoraville community.
“I am overjoyed with the opportunity to work with incoming Principal Amy Beason to help prepare and motivate our students for success,” said Hall.
