Taylor selected to attend 2017 Governor’s Honors Program

The program offers intensive and advanced instructio­n designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders. The program has often been described as “life- changing” by participan­ts. An accomplish­ed musician, vocalist and thespian, Joseph will attend classes in his major of Music and a selected minor, as well as participat­e in special projects and performanc­es.

Calhoun High junior Cecelia Swink has qualified as a participan­t in the 2018 National Merit Scholarshi­p Program based on her performanc­e on the PSAT.

From approximat­ely 1.5 million entrants, she is among the 50,000 highest scoring students and will be recognized as such this fall.

From these 50,000 high scorers across the nation, 16,000 will be named National Merit Program Semifinali­sts, representi­ng the top scorers in each state; and the other 34,000 will be commended for their performanc­e on the PSAT. If selected as a semifinali­st, Swink will have the opportunit­y to compete for one of 7,400 Merit Scholarshi­ps to be awarded in 2018.

“Cecelia is an outstandin­g example of all that Calhoun High School stands for,” said Dr. Peter Coombe, CHS principal.
