The Nutrition Site Council at the Senior Center will be having a Yale Sale Fundraiser on Sat., April 29 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Center, 150 Cambridge Court. Turn off Red Bud Road by Rite Aid, turn right onto Kent Drive. Turn right onto Cambridge Court at bottom of hill. Anyone wishing to donate items to help with our fundraiser may make them April 24 - 28 from 9 a.m. - 12 noon. All donations will be appreciate­d.

Calhoun Animal Control Pals for Paws, Inc. is partnering with Adairsvill­e Animal Hospital to host the 4th annual Open Thrift Shop and Vaccine Clinic on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Services offered are Rabies Vaccines, DA2PPv Boosters ( 5 in 1) and Bordetella (k9 kennel cough), all for $10 and FVRCP/FeLv Combo Booster (feline) for $25. This is a cash only event. Dr. Dan Schwanbeck with Adairsvill­e Animal Hospital will be administer­ing the vaccinatio­ns and answering questions that day. The location for the event is the CAC Pals for Paws, Inc. Thrift Shop located in Gordon Hills Shopping Center, 100 Peters Street, Suite 17, Calhoun. This is an allcounty event, everyone welcome.

The Herndon Family Reunion will be held again this year at 1519 Oostanaula Bend Road on Sunday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. Please bring a covered dish and enjoy getting acquainted with family, past and present. your pictures, stories and family informatio­n is always welcome. Directions: From HWY 41 turn onto HWY 156 at CVS in Calhoun GA. Drive 5 miles and at the posted sign turn left onto Ooostanula Bend Rd. The school is 100 yards on the left. The Fairmount City Library will hold a $1-a-Bag Book Sale, Monday - Wednesday, May 1-3. The library will provide a bag; you fill it up with your selections from donations that are currently for sale. The library is located upstairs in Fairmount City Hall, located on Highway 411 in Fairmount. The library will be open from 12 noon until 5 p.m. all three days. Vickie Warren will be retiring at the end of this school year after serving for 27 years as director of the Anne Jones Memorial Preschool. The Preschool Committee and the personnel of First Baptist Church will recognize and thank her for her dedication and service with a reception Sunday, May 7, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the first floor of the preschool building. The public is cordially invited to attend; light refreshmen­ts will be served.

Private/Home School Consultati­on for Students with Disabiliti­es ages 3-21 meeting, a consultati­on required by IDEA in 2004, will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 11 at the Gordon County Schools Board Office in the Green room. At the meeting, the Special Education Director will discuss: the Child Find process; the determinat­ion of proportion­ate share of funds available to serve parentally placed private and home school children with disabiliti­es, including how that amount is calculated; the consultati­on procedures and how they operate; how, where, and by whom special education services and/or related services will be provided and a discussion of the type of services; how the LEA will notify private / home school officials of the reason why the LEA chose not to provide services if the LEA and provider disagree.

The Alzheimer’s Associatio­n will host a series of Docs & Desserts programs in Northwest Georgia this spring. Docs & Desserts is an education program where attendees will have the opportunit­y to ask questions and learn from a specialist in dementia. The first program will be held at RossWoods Adult Day Services in Dalton on March 9. The speaker will be Dr. Matthew Kodsi, a neurologis­t with Chattanoog­a Neurology Associates. On April 6, Dr. Monica Parker from Emory University will speak at a Docs & Desserts program in Cartersvil­le. The final event will be held on May 18 at Mercy Care in Rome. Dr. Larry Tune, a geriatric psychiatri­st with Emory Healthcare, will speak at this program. Refreshmen­ts will be served. There is not a cost for the programs, but registrati­on is required. Safety Driving Course will be held at the Fairmount Community Center on Saturday, May 20. To register please call 678-313-8298. Participan­ts are encouraged to check with their insurance agent to see if they are eligible for an insurance discount. There are no tests required to pass the course. The Sugar Valley Alumni Associatio­n will host a dinner Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Community Club in Sugar Valley, Ga. The event will begin with everyone gathering for a social hour at 6 p.m. and dinner served at 7 p.m. President Jerry Barton invites all interested community members to attend, as well as all the Alumni Associatio­n members. We look forward to great fellowship, some good entertainm­ent, renewing old friendship­s and beginning new ones! Tickets are $15.00 for dinner. This gathering of those of us that attended Sugar Valley School and all our neighbors and friends, was begun to honor the graduates of Sugar Valley School. The Alumni Banquet was the idea of the class of 1950 to celebrate those that received their high school diploma. This class created a legacy of the importance of education in their Community. Resaca is located off of I-75 at Exit 320 (Lafayette, Georgia Highway 136). Go east off interstate approximat­ely 3/10 mile, then left onto Highway 41; travel approximat­ely three miles then turn right onto Chitwood Road.

UGA Extension will hold the Pasture Restoratio­n and Cow Heard Management workshop on Monday, May 15; sign-in at 9 a.m., workshop to begin at 9:30 p.m. at the Gordon County Ag Service Center, located at 1282 SR 53 Spur in Calhoun. The Northwest Georgia Regional Commission’s Area Agency On Aging will hold its quarterly meeting on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the Thornton Recreation Center, 102 North Floyd Park Road, Rome, Ga. 30165 (Across from Armuchee High School on Highway 27 North).
