Kentucky Derby party to benefit the Northwest Georgia Family Crisis Center

Delta Nu is sponsoring a Kentucky Derby party to benefit the Northwest Georgia Family Crisis Center beginning at 5 p. m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Gordon County Farm Bureau, located at 487 West Belmont Drive in Calhoun.

Games and food will begin at 5 p. m. with post time at 6: 30 p. m.

Those interested in attending the event are invited to come in your Derby attire, enjoy Southern fare and merrily bet on your race favorite. All money goes to the Northwest Georgia Family Crisis Center.

Prizes will be awarded for Best Dressed Guy, Best Dressed Lady, Best Tie, Most Creative Hat, Most Elegant Hat and Biggest Hat.

The Northwest Georgia Family Crisis Center provides shelter, advocacy and support to victims of domestic violence in Whitfield, Murray and Gordon Counties. From its inception in 1979 until today, the Northwest Georgia Family Crisis Center continues to be a haven for battered and abused women and children due to generous and caring people in this community. The following programs are available:

Emergency Shelter for Victims of Family Violence

This program offers safe, confidenti­al shelter for victims of family violence. Initial placement is based on the needs of each individual client. Clients can stay up to 90 days in emergency shelter. Transition­al Housing Program The Transition­al Housing Program is designed to give survivors of domestic violence an opportunit­y to practice independen­t living skills in a safe, supportive environmen­t.

Services for Adult Victims of Family Violence

This program provides services for survivors of family violence living in the shelter, as well as those living in the community. Outreach staff is available in both Whitfield and Murray Counties allowing victims to access services when they are not residents of the shelter. Agency staff provides comprehens­ive case management designed to foster safety and promote selfsuffic­iency. A 24- hour hotline is available to facilitate crisis interventi­on, access placement in the shelter, and provide informatio­n about shelter and outreach services. Other services include support group, parenting programs, individual counseling and legal advocacy.

Services for Children Violence)

Family violence interventi­on and prevention services for children are provided by this program serving both children in the shelter and those not sheltered. Services included are support groups, children’s program activities and counseling. School curricula are provided for all ages of children. Outreach and follow up services are offered after the child leaves the shelter.
