Calhoun Rec offering summer of adventure with annual camps for kids
there are five camp sessions this year for kids ages 8-12, during the weeks of June 5-9, June 12-16, June 19-23, June 26-30 and July 17-21. There will be one camp session for kids age 12-14 during the week of July 24-26.
There are various activities offered during the sessions. “We go on trips daily,” said Chappell. “We will visit the Georgia Aquarium, Stone Mountain and other area attractions such as Chattanooga Duck Tours. We will also do outdoor recreation activities such as hikes and kayak and canoe.”
“For the older kids, the highlight of the trip last year was whitewater rafting on the Ocoee and we will do that again this year,” said Chappell.
According to Chappell, participants in the 8-12 camps must be 8-12 years old and for the older kids camp, participants must be 12 years of age to be able to whitewater raft. Some activities may be challenging or get kids in different environments that they are not used too such as rock climbing and zip lining.
The cost for each camp session for those age 8-12 is $65 per week; the camp session for those age 12-14 is $85 for the week. For those that qualify United Way Funding is available.
Camp will be held each day from 8 a.m. with each camper being picked up by 5:30 p.m. Later pick up must be arranged prior to the day. For more information, call Will Chappell at the Calhoun Recreation Department at 706-629-0177.
