Calhoun girls win second straight Lady Trojan Invitation­al

The Calhoun girls golf team traveled to Carrollton on Monday and left as back-to-back champs of the Lady Trojan Invitation­al.

For the second straight year, the Lady Jackets finished atop the leaderboar­d to earn the first-place trophy. They were led by Maddie Crump, who finished second individual­ly with a 76.

Kate Mashburn shot an 82, and Katie Kauffman carded an 83 to finish out the team score. Molly Mashburn also shot a 93.

The Lady Jackets will next compete in the Jack and Jill Tournament at Indian Hills in Marietta on Monday. That will be their final tune-up before the Area Tournament on Thursday at Fields Ferry.

Calhoun boys win tri-match vs. Sonoravill­e, North Murray

The Calhoun boys finished with the low team score on Tuesday in a tri-match at Fields Ferry against Sonoravill­e and North Murray.

The Jackets shot a 167 as they were led by Hayden Hayes with a 40. Drew Gravitt (41), Avery Dodd (42) and Drew Eickman (44) completed the team score. Luke Jones (47), Taylor Gresham (48), Will Holden (48) and Alex Repp (50) also completed rounds.

Sonoravill­e finished just one stroke behind in second with a 168. Ryan Redd had their low round with a 38, and Lane Strickland shot a 39. Blake Rouzee (45) and Paxton Jarrett (46) finished the team scor- ing. Cody Grantham (53), Alex Naymick (53), Destin Summers (54) and Landon Ruff (57) also completed rounds.

Sonoravill­e’s Clara Hulsey played an individual round along with the North Murray girls. She shot an even-par 38 to continue her strong play of late. Hulsey will compete in the girls Area Tournament on Thursday at Fields Ferry as she looks to qualify or the State Tournament as an individual.

Calhoun’s boys will next play in the Jack and Jill Tournament at Indian Hills in Marietta on Monday and then in a nine-hole match at Indian Trace against North Murray on Tuesday. They along with Sonoravill­e will compete in the boys Area Tournament on May 8 at Indian Trace.

Warriors, Lady Warriors sweep at Calhoun Elks

Gordon Central hosted Pepperell and Adairsvill­e for a match at Calhoun Elks Club on Tuesday and came away with a sweep.

The Lady Warriors finished with a team score of 87 to take first over Pepperell (96) and Adairsvill­e (98). Ciera Lawson had the low score for the entire field with a 43. Celeste Huffman shot a 44 to complete the team score, including her first-ever birdie in a match. Other players to complete rounds for the Gordon Central girls were Kallie Millard (48), Amberly Wilson (49) and Abbigail Hayes (51).

The Gordon Central boys score was a 170 as they defeated Adairsvill­e ( 186). Pepperell didn’t have a team score with only three golfers.

The Warriors were led by Isaac McEntyre with a 41 to take low medalist honors. Jordan Hardin, Branton Lawson and Zeb Reddix all shot 43s to round out the team score. Other individual rounds came from Matthew Bryson (45), Joshua Hardin (46) and Alex Neal (49).

Gordon Central hosted Model, Adairsvill­e and Trion on Thursday at Fields Ferry. ( For details on that match, see Wednesday’s Calhoun Times.)

The Lady Warriors will compete in the girls Area Tournament on Monday at Calhoun Elks Club, and the Gordon Central boys will compete in the boys Area Tournament on Tuesday at Fields Ferry.
