Boys & Girls Club address Calhoun Rotary Club

Rotary Program Chair Scope Denmon recently invited management of the Boys and Girls Club to address Calhoun Rotary. In addition to Scope Denmon, who is unit director of the Calhoun Boys and Girls Club, the panel of speakers were: Robbie Slocumb, Chief Profession­al Officer; David Renz, Vice President of Resources and Jason Finell, Director of Advancemen­t.

The Boys and Girls Clubs serve young people ranging in age from six- 18 years of age in four counties of Northwest Georgia-- Chattooga, Gordon, Murray and Whitfield. There are seven clubs in the four counties and approximat­ely 2,100 kids are served.

The focus of the programs are to provide Educationa­l Support ( homework help, college visits, partnershi­ps with local colleges and Summer Camps), Art, Character and Leadership Developmen­t, Physical Recreation and Healthy Snacks.

One outcome measure is the improving of Grade Point Averages of the enrollees-- GPA most recently was 3.38.

The Boys and Girls Club in Calhoun has 400 members enrolled and serves approximat­ely 50 kids, five days per week and longer hours in the summer.

According to Slocumb, volunteers are always welcome and you can obtain further informatio­n by calling Denmon at 706- 629- 9751. Attending the meeting was visitor William Wilcox, vice president of Rome Regions Bank.
