Townsend named to social worker position at Gordon County Schools.
Molly Townsend, current counselor at W. L. Swain Elementary School will transition to a new role for the 2017- 18 school year. Townsend was recently named to fill the role of social worker in the Gordon County Schools’ Student Services Department. Mike Evelti, Director of Student Services, welcomed Townsend to his department. “Everyone in Student Services is excited about Molly Townsend joining our team and we are looking forward to the positive impact that she will have in meeting the diverse needs of our students and families,” said Evelti. “We are grateful for the additional support with this newly created position.”
Having served Gordon County as the counselor at W. L. Swain Elementary School for the past three years, Townsend’s transition will be bittersweet for her. “It has been my honor and pleasure to work with the students, family and staff at W. L. Swain for the last three years,” said Townsend. “From the moment I came to Gordon County, I fell in love with our school system and all of our students we serve. It is my passion to help families eliminate obstacles that keep our students from being completely successful in school.”
Townsend will join Georgette Hunt, the current social worker serving Gordon County Schools. “The advocates and I are very excited to have Molly join us in working with our families to remove barriers to school success,” said Hunt. “Molly brings a unique mix of experience and training that will be a tremendous asset to helping students be present and ready to learn when they enter a teacher’s classroom.”
Prior to coming to Gordon County Schools, Townsend served as a therapist and professional school counselor in Whitfield County, as well as a social worker for Georgia Sheriff’s Cherokee Estate. Townsend holds multiple degrees in counseling, including an educational specialist in school counseling from Argosy University.
