Annual Fairmount United Memorial Day Festival and Car Show set for Monday, May 29
The 8th- annual Fairmount United Memorial Day Festival and Car Show is set for Memorial Day, Monday, May 29 at Tate Park in Fairmount. The festival kicks off at 10 a. m. and runs until 3 p. m. with music, food and craft vendors. For the children, a log roll ride, other mechanical rides, petting zoo, trackless train rides and much more are planned. The Antique Engine and Tractor Club will be providing rides for visitors. The cost per child is $ 15 for all day.
Classic America Ride ( C. A. R. S.) Club will be hosting the Antique Car Show. Car registration is set from 9 a. m. - 12 p. m. Registration fee is $ 20 per car. The car show winners will be announced at 1: 30 p. m. that day.
Also returning is live professional wrestling that will be on- going all day.
A highlight of the day will be held at 11 a. m. when veterans are honored. Alton Cadenhead, WWII Veteran, has been the speaker at this event for several years, but due to a recent fall he will not be in attendance this year. He promises to be back next Memorial Day. Former District Attorney Joe Campbell will be joining the program. He is an army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served in combat from June 1970 - May 1971. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal with “V” device for valor, and Combat Infantryman’s Badge for his service to the country. The event organizers invite all veterans to come and participate. Campbell is an excellent speaker who will bring a message of encouragement as well as a salute to the veterans. This event has grown each year.
Admission is free so come and have a day filled with music, good family fun, great food and wonderful memories while showing your support veterans.
