Gordon Central HOSA club has successful Color Run

- Staff Reports

It was bright and colorful on the campus of Gordon Central the afternoon of April 25 when the school’s Healthcare Occupations Students of America (HOSA) club hosted their first annual Color Run fundraiser.

The event drew close to 300 runners and raised $2200 for the Coulter Hampton Foundation, which serves children in and around the Gordon County area.

Volunteers from various groups at Gordon Central, including National Honor Society, Skills USA, FFA, Track and HOSA, were stationed along the race route prepared with bottles and cups of powder. As runners approached, the volunteers promptly coated them in a rainbow of different colors.

At the finale, clouds of color floated through the air at Ratner Stadium for all those who completed the 1.5 mile cross country course.

HOSA advisor, Heidi Weaver, said the color run process started back in August when the Gordon County Board of Education approved the fundraiser. What she thought would only be a small gathering for a few Gordon Central students quickly evolved into an entire community service effort. This was due in part to generous donations from sponsors such as Greater Community Bank, Expert Die, Advance Rehab, Classic Kitchen, Calhoun Drug Co. and the Coulter Hampton Foundation.

Gordon Central HOSA would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all those from the community who volunteered their time and last but certainly not least, to those who ran in the color run to support such a wonderful cause.

The club hopes to make this an annual tradition and is already gearing up for next year’s color run.
