Local Retired Educators attend Georgia REA Convention
The Calhoun Gordon County Retired Educators Association was represented at the state GREA convention in Stone Mountain by President Mary Nell Podgorny and Presidentelect Netha Dunlap. They were part of the 500 retired educators present to recognize the accomplishments of local units and to be inspired for plans for the coming year.
The CGCREA was awarded the Certificate of Excellence. This represents the 10 individual certificates the unit was awarded for completion in the areas of: Archives and History, Community Service, GRE Foundation, GEM, Handbook, History, Newsletter, Public Relations, Scholarship and Scrapbook.
Highlights of the convention included: a report from the Teachers Retirement System stating that TRS is in very good financial health, and two interesting and entertaining speakers: Dr. Brooks Coleman, Georgia House Education Committee Chairman and Vince Dooley, retired coach and Athletic Director – UGA.
Next year’s theme for GREA is “Running with Champions.” The local unit, CGCREA, will be making plans for meeting programs and other activities that reflect this theme. They will invite all retirees from the county and city schools: teachers, counselors, principals, support personnel and aides to become a part of CGCREA. For information about membership, contact Netha Dunlap or other local members.
