Calhoun completes cheerleading staff
Langston named new head competition coach
Calhoun High named a new head coach for the competition cheerleading program to try and continue the legacy and success it has accomplished over the last two decades.
Calhoun High alum Katelyn Langston has been named the head competition cheer coach as she will take over for veteran Ginger Reeves, who resigned from the position in August. Langston is a 2013 Calhoun High graduate and went on to Alderson Broaddus University where she competed in acrobatics and tumbling. She is a former state champion cheerleader for the Lady Jackets under Reeves.
“This is a dream come true,” said Langston in a release put out by the Calhoun City Schools on Monday. “I have always wanted to give back to the school system and the cheer program that inspired me to not only become a teacher but also a cheerleading coach. I know that with the support of an outstanding coaching staff at CHS, we will strive toward continuing the tradition of excellence while earning State trophies along the way.”
Langston will teach middle grades English Language Arts.
Kacee McEntyre will serve as the assistant competition cheerleading coach under Langston. McEntyre is a 2010 graduate of Calhoun High where she won three state titles as part of the Calhoun cheerleading program. She went on to cheer at North Georgia College and State University ( now University of North Georgia) and is currently attending Kennesaw State University. She has coached at Renegade Athletics locally and will begin working as a kindergarten paraprofessional along with her assistant coaching duties.
“I have always loved Calhoun cheerleading and have such fond memories of my time here,” said McEntyre. “I was fortunate enough to cheer on three state championship squads and know the hard work and effort that goes into earning these accolades. I will work hard to support the program, our girls and the other coaches as we build upon the exist- ing traditions, while creating some of our own.”
Tracy Lester, who has served as assistant football cheerleading coach last year will move into the head coach of the football cheerleaders this upcoming school year.
Megan Butts will continue to serve as Calhoun High basketball cheerleading head coach and Calhoun Middle competition cheerleading coach, and Crystal Davis will be head coach for both the Calhoun Middle football and basketball cheerleading squads.
“Together as a team, these wonderful ladies with the support of our newest additions, Katelyn Langston and Kacee McEntyre, will build a new legacy at Calhoun Middle and High Schools,” Calhoun City Schools said in statement on Monday.
“They are excited about the new school year and the great opportunities that are present with the skills and abilities of their current and rising cheerleaders. Calhoun is an outstanding place to teach and coach and each of these coaches offer a great deal to the Calhoun community. Calhoun City Schools welcomes our new staff members while honoring those who continue to lead these young ladies and cheer programs.”
The Calhoun High competition cheerleading program has won six state championships since 2005 and finished fifth in Class AAA last season.
