Mr. William Herbert Roden, 85, of Sugar Valley, died Sunday, June 4, 2017 at his home, following six months of declining health. He was born in Henry County on Sept. 27, 1931, son of the late Gilbert and Vera Housmer Roden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Ramey Roden; grandchild­ren, Mikayla Roden, and Gianni Darden; his brother, Grady Roden; and sisters, Helen Ledford and Melba Jean Ray.

William was a veteran, serving his country in the United States Marines. He enjoyed the outdoors, wrestling and Brave’s baseball. He had retired from Shaw Industries and the Sugar Valley Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Faith and Deliveranc­e Church in Resaca.

Survivors include his son and daughterin- law, Gilbert and Connie Roden of Resaca; his daughters and son- in- law, Michelle and Jimmy Swafford of Sugar Valley, Inell Roden of Calhoun, and Rhonda Adams of Calhoun; a sister and brother- in- law, Doris and Kenneth Long of Calhoun; and grandchild­ren, Michael Ross, William Ross, Mandy Stinnett, Jamie Roden, Tonya Roden, Travis Roden, Amber Roden Haynes, Stephanie Darden, Lucinda Adams, Kirsten “Pearson” Webb, and Halie Swafford. Twenty- four great- grandchild­ren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and his best friend, Joe Parker, also survive.

Services to honor the life of Mr. William Herbert Roden will be held Wednesday, June 7 at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with interment and Military Honors to follow in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearer­s serving will include Austin Webb, Jimmy Swafford, Justice Darden, Travis Roden, Michael Ross, and Kelly McConnell. Honorary pallbearer­s are Steve Long, Scott Long, and David Roden.

The Roden family received friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 6 from 5 until 9 p. m.
