The Calhoun Elks Lodge is hosting its 5th Annual Junior Golf Clinic on Monday-Wednesday, June 26-28. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 26 and class is 9-11 a.m. each day. FREE TEEN DATING SKILLS CLASSES. According to LoveIsRespect. org One in ten high school students has been purposefully hit, slapped or physically hurt by a boyfriend or girlfriend. Violent relationships in adolescence can have serious ramifications by putting the victims at higher risk for substance abuse, eating disorders, risky sexual behavior and further domestic violence. Only 33% of teens who were in an abusive relationship ever told anyone about the abuse. Eighty-one (81) percent of parents believe teen dating violence is not an issue or admit they don’t know if it’s an issue. Do you know the warning signs of an unhealthy relationship? Join us as we start the conversation about Healthy Relationships vs Unhealthy Relationships on Friday, June 30, from 10 – 11:30 a.m. at the CalhounGordon County Library. The next meeting of the Georgia Chapter of the Trail of Tears Association (GA TOTA) will be held on July 8, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sautee Nacoochee Center in Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia. Our speaker will be Anita Finger-Smith, genealogist for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and historic researcher. She will speak about the history of the Eastern Band of Cherokee. July is National Parks and Rec month and the Calhoun Recreation Department will hold Dog Days of Summer event on Saturday, July 22 from 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Calhoun Rec Park located on McDaniel Station Road in Calhoun. There will be various vendors, demos and contests. The Sons of the American Legion will be hosting the Ninth annual 1SG John D. Blair Memorial Golf Tournament Friday, Sept. 1, 2017 at the Calhoun Elks Golf and Country Club. All proceeds raised from this annual event go toward the aid of Veterans and needy families in our community. Our Lunch with Leaders program provides members with a positive learning experience while allowing members to interact with professional leaders in the community.
