July is National Parks and Rec month and the Calhoun Recreation Department will hold Dog Days of Summer event on Saturday, July 22 from 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Calhoun Rec Park located on McDaniel Station Road in Calhoun. There will be various vendors, demos and contests. Anyone who would benefit from having a booth at the event, spaces are $20 and can be reserved by contacting Will Chappell at the Calhoun Rec by emailing wchappell@ calnet-ga.net or calling 706-629-0177.

The next meeting of the Coosawatte­e Regional Water and Sewerage Authority is scheduled for Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 9 a.m. at the Ellijay Gilmer County Water and Sewerage Authority conference room.

Job Fair - Goodwill will offer a free Job Fair at VAC on Wednesday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to noon. Come with your updated resume and dressed for possible interviews.

The Christmas Elves will be having a gently used clothing sale on Monday, July 24, 2017. It will be held at the Calhoun First United Methodist Church’s Christian Life Center from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. All items of clothing will cost a quarter each. All money raised will be divided among these food banks: VAC, Blewer Food Bank, Seventh Day Adventist Food Bank, and St. Vincent de Paul’s Food Bank at St. Clement’s Catholic Church. Tell your family and friends and come shop for some great buys!

FREE TEEN DATING SKILLS CLASSES. According to LoveIsResp­ect.org One in ten high school students has been purposeful­ly hit, slapped or physically hurt by a boyfriend or girlfriend. Violent relationsh­ips in adolescenc­e can have serious ramificati­ons by putting the victims at higher risk for substance abuse, eating disorders, risky sexual behavior and further domestic violence. Only 33% of teens who were in an abusive relationsh­ip ever told anyone about the abuse. Eighty-one (81) percent of parents believe teen dating violence is not an issue or admit they don’t know if it’s an issue. Do you know the warning signs of an unhealthy relationsh­ip?
