CALHOUN COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAM SUMMER CAMPS

— The Calhoun City Schools Community Education Program has released their schedule for 2017 Summer Camps. The camps run from the final week of May through the final week of July with educationa­l, sports, music, art camps and much more. SHERIFF’S AUXILIARY FOOTBALL CLINIC

— Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston and the Sheriff’s Auxiliary will host their annual Football Clinic on July 15 at the Calhoun Recreation Department Football Field on McDaniel Station Road. The clinic will go from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and is open to kids ages 6-13. The fee is $30 per participan­t and each participan­t will receive a free t-shirt and other special gifts. Featured instructor­s include former Atlanta Falcon Pro-Bowler Elbert Shelley, former Sonoravill­e High standout and current Georgia Tech player Kenny Cooper, current Georgia Tech players Joseph Macrina, Jakob Brashear and Will Bryan and former Calhoun High players that went on to play college football Nash Nance, DeShawn Printup and Cody Ralston. TEAM ADIDAS TRYOUTS

— Team Adidas of Calhoun (Baseball) will be holding tryouts for the upcoming 13-under season on July 20 from 6-8 p.m. The tryouts will take place at the Calhoun Rec Field 3 on McDaniel Station Road. For any questions or more informatio­n, email greeson.eric@gmail.com.

CALHOUN REC DEPARTMENT DOG DAYS OF SUMMER

— Dog Days of Summer will be held on July 22 at Calhoun Park. There will be contests you can enter and all monies raised from the contests will go to the Gordon County Animal Shelter to help with the rebuilding process. Vendors and community groups are welcome to set up a booth, but must fill out an applicatio­n with a $20 space fee. There is an $8 entry fee for all 13 and up or bring an item from the donation list for free entry.

TYP FASTPITCH TRYOUTS

— The TYP Fastpitch Organizati­on will host tryouts for their 10U and 12U teams on July 22 at The Yard facility (160 Westwind Industrial Blvd., Calhoun, Ga. 30701). 10U tryouts will be 12-2 p.m. and 12U tryouts will be 3-5 p.m. and players should arrive 30 minutes early for registrati­on. GORDON COUNTY PARKS AND REC FOOTBALL AND CHEERLEADI­NG REGISTRATI­ON

— The Gordon County Parks and Recreation would like to announce Open Registrati­on for 2017 Youth Football and Cheerleadi­ng. Registrati­on is open from July 1 through Aug. 5. Registrati­on fee for Flag Football will be $35, Tackle Football will be $50 and Cheerleadi­ng will be $35. A late fee of $10 will be added after Aug. 5. Age divisions are as follows: 5-6 Flag Football, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 Tackle Football and Cheerleadi­ng is open to ages 5-12. Age control date prior to Sept. 1, 2017. Registrati­on can be taken at the Sonoravill­e Recreation Complex at 7494 Fairmount Hwy during the hours of 8:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday. — The Calhoun Recreation Department announces 2017 Football and Cheerleadi­ng Registrati­on that will take place from July 12-Aug. 10. Registrati­on fees are $40 for Cheerleadi­ng, $50 for 5-6 Flag Football and $60 for 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 Tackle Football. Assessment Day is Aug. 12, and Opening Day will be Sept. 9. Registrati­on can be taken at the Calhoun Rec from 8:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Wednesday and Friday and online at www. CalhounRec.com.

CALHOUN REC DEPARTMENT FALL SOCCER REGISTRATI­ON

— The Calhoun Recreation Department announces 2017 Fall Soccer Registrati­on that will take place from July 10-Aug. 17. Regsitrati­on hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m.-8:30 p.m and Wednesday and Friday 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Registrati­on is also available online at www.calhounrec.com. There will be four age groups for boys and girls. Fees for U6 (4-5 year olds) are $50 and U8 (6-7 year olds), U10 (8-9 year olds), U12 (10-11 year olds) and U14 Co-ed (12-13 year olds) are $60. Players will be placed in an age group based off their age as of prior to Aug. 1. Assessment Day is Aug. 19. Players must come to assessment day or the will be randomly placed on a team. Assessment times on Aug. 19 are as follows: U6 girls and boys at 10 a.m., U8 girls and boys at 10:45 a.m., U10 girls and boys at 11:30 a.m., U12 girls and boys at 12:15 p.m. and U14 Co-ed at 12:45 p.m. Drafts will follow.

CALHOUN REC DEPARTMENT FALL COED SOFTBALL REGISTRATI­ON

— The Calhoun Recreation Department announces 2017 Fall Coed Softball Registrati­on that will take place from Aug. 1-Aug. 31. The league will be for adult men and women and the registrati­on fee is $360 per team. Registrati­on will be available Monday and Thursday 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and Wednesday and Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Calhoun Rec Department at 601 S. River Street. PRO WRESTLING EVENT AND SEMINAR AT NATIONAL GUARD ARMORY

— There will be a pro wrestling show and seminar on Aug. 18 at the National Guard Armory in Calhoun. The seminar will be from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and will feature Impact Wrestling star Robbie E, Johnny Swinger and former WCW and WWE star Action Mike Jackson. The cost for the seminar is $30 and 50 percent of the fee will go to help the Children’s Miracle Network. SARAH WILLIAMS TOURNAMENT MEMORIAL MUD VOLLEYBALL

— The Gordon Optimist Club’s annual Sarah Williams Mud Volleyball Tournament will be held Saturday, Aug. 19 at the Calhoun Recreation Department Facility on McDaniel Station Road. Captains meeting is at 8:15 a.m. and play will begin at 9 a.m. Team entry is $250 and payment is due by Aug. 11. Event/Team sponsorshi­ps are also available for $450 due on Aug. 11. JOHN D. BLAIR MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

— The ninth annual John D. Blair Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, Sept. 1 at the Calhoun Elks Lodge. Registrati­on will begin at 10 a.m. and the tournament will start at 12 p.m. The tournament is in memory of Army 1SG John D. Blair, a local serviceman, who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country. Blair’s military career began in 1989 when he enlisted in the Kentucky Army National Guard. In 1994, he was sworn in as a deputy sheriff for the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office and was later attached to the Drug Task Force as part of the Georgia Army National Guard’s counter-drug operations. During his 20-plus years of service, he was awarded several medals and ribbons including the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal and the Army Commendati­on Medal. The tournament will be played in a four-person team and is $100 per player. CALLING ALL CALHOUN HIGH HARRIERS

— Calhoun High School will honor and recognize cross country runners from 1968 to today on September 21 and 22, 2017. 2017 marks 50 years that cross country has existed as a sport at CHS. Plan now to attend the home meet on Sept. 21 at New Echota State Historic Site. A meet and greet will be held at 3 with the meet to follow at 5. Come one, come all to see former teammates and the program’s first coach, Lynn Walter.
