Officials Cut Ribbon on Transfer Station

- Staff Reports

CHATSWORTH, Ga. – Murray County Commissioner Greg Hogan and Santek Waste Services officials were joined by other local leaders as they cut the ribbon on Murray County’s new waste transfer station Monday morning.

Located off Hwy. 411 at the Murray County Landfill, the 3,600- squarefoot building will now be the central location for all landfill customers to dump their waste. It will then be loaded into trailers and transported to the Redbone Ridges Landfill in Ranger, Georgia which Santek manages for the Gordon County Commission.

Santek has managed the Murray County Landfill since 2002 and company officials decided last year to construct the transfer station to prolong the life of the landfill.

“This all- weather facility will also be a more user friendly disposal site since everyone will be dumping on concrete and out of the elements,” said Tim Watts, Santek Chief Operations Officer. “It’ll mean less wear and tear on vehicles and will be more efficient in the long term.”

Although the transfer station cost approximately $ 1 million facility and was paid for by Santek, the transfer station is permitted in Murray County’s name and will belong to the county.

“I believe this investment strengthens our partnership with Murray County and demonstrates our commitment to the community,” Watts said. “We’ll continue to maintain the landfill on behalf of the county, and the county and the cities of Chatsworth and Eton will continue to receive free disposal for their waste. The only changes are aesthetics and convenience: a win- win situation for everyone!”
